Highlands to host 8A Christopher Columbus Miami (FL)

Featured Replies

I agree with most of your post but Christopher Columbus is about the furthest you can get from an "inner city school".

You are talking about one of the top Private Schools in South Florida. I'd say some of their parents have yachts that cost more than our houses.

Correct, but they play a very ruff schedule against some big time competition.

That's good to know, makes me feel a little better about their 7-5 schedule. Sometimes it's hard to tell how good a team is since it's so hard to determine their strength of schedule. For instance, an out of state team coming into KY to play a St X or Trinity might underestimate how good they are if all they have is last year's results.

How many games has Ryle won the last two seasons? And why does Ryle even care what Highlands does? I am a fan of neither school but this thread seems to have a few Ryle faithful wanting to criticize both who Highlands played last year and criticize Highlands fans for acting arrogant about this year's opponent. Hey Highlands picked up one serious opponent. I mean seriously why didn't Highlands play a GCL school or Colerain......Oh wait they cannot play in week 0. Well why didn't Highlands play Trinity or St X....Oh wait they already had a game scheduled.....

Man that AD at Highlands just does not know how to schedule.......... (that is sarcasm BTW).

Can one of the Ryle folk start a Ryle thread and post your schedule so we can see it and perhaps dissect it and see where you need to go with it?

There are posters around here who latch on to any phrase (like the innocuous "stepping up" comment made in this thread) to try and make a ridiculous counter point - usually out of some perceived slight to their own team. Because someone makes a positive post about their own team does not necessarily also mean that they are somehow slighting another team!

Sheesh- I'm a CCH supporter and respect the hell out of the Highlands program. The fact that they have been able to attract Florida schools to travel to N Ky in October is enough to define "stepping up" to me- period!

Further- very few Northern Ky teams fans outside of CCH (and recently maybe Campbell Co or Ryle) have any place to start criticizing Highlands schedule in any way shape or form until they "step up" and pressure their coach to actually schedule a game with them!

I don't think anyone is criticizing Highlands schedule.

I think what you are missing is no one really cares outside of Highlands who they play. Why don't they travel to Wyoming and play a team? Why, because it really doesn't matter.

Highlands has one of the storied programs in the state.

Let's be real here folks. For those that throw out things such as "Why doesn't other teams play these national powers like Highlands or Trinity does?"

That is easy to answer folks. It's because other teams aren't as good. Was that so hard? Nope.

Does Highlands playing a team from Florida who won 1 playoff game last year make them better than if they didn't play that team from Florida? No. Why? Because the teams they will have to play to win a state title aren't going to be playing teams from Texas or Florida or wherever, they will be playing teams from Kentucky where in the end that is all that matters.

So lets not sugar coat anything here folks. Highlands is one of the better teams in the state. We all know that, what gets some bothered is the constant rubbing in the noses of other schools that they aren't anywhere near as special as Highlands because they don't play teams from other states. When in the end what does that matter? Highlands is among the top 5 in the state and year in and year out will always be there.

In the end does anyone really think this team from Florida is making Highlands better? I think if you are talking about competition then a better team than the one in Florida would be right here in our own state, play Trinity. If it is all about playing better teams, then why even have to go outside the state. Last I heard both Trinity and Highlands use the excuse that no one in the state wants to play them, well then play eachother. Problem solved.

Christopher Columbus is not that little school that HHS played last year. Don't be so cocky. Be prepared to see SPEED' date=' and get your bell's rung. This is a huge inner city school and they will play with a chip on their shoulders. They will not come in quiet or leave quietly.[/quote']

I don't know took him a while to find the Americas.

I think your nose must be extra sensitive because I sure don't take any of this as "rubbing it in because they play teams from out of state." I can't believe I'm the only non Highlands supporter on here to think that this is a great thing and should be celebrated- and emulated if possible. This is what marketing and creating a brand is all about. Don't pretend for a second that if Cooper were to attract two Florida schools to travel north two years in a row that you wouldn't be excited about talking about it here on BGP.

I think Banana Slug put it best in a quote I read from him on another topic- blowing out someone else's candle does not make your own burn any brighter.

Cooper concentrates on getting better and their goal of winning a state championship.

They aren't really concerned with how many out of state opponents they can get because a out of state opponent has nothing to do with them winning a state title.

Again, if Highlands is really concerned in playing the best, why aren't they playing an in state school that is better than the Florida team? Why do they duck Trinity and BG etc. if their goal is to play the best?

Because they don't play they're ducking them? Is Cooper ducking CCH, HHS, etc?

Come on now. Ducking Trinity and BG? Really? I understand to a degree what you are saying to a point, but this is way off base. They scrimmage the team you claim is best every year in Trinity. They do this to experiment and see how kids perform under the bright lights. They do not scheme to attack Trinity either offensively or defensively. This is done to prepare them for what lies ahead, which is hopefully a state championship. And ducking BG is even more hysterical.

From what I have heard, CovCath and Highlands are going to be in 5A next year with the likes of Conner, Cooper, Scott and possibly Boone County so perhaps many in NKY will get their wish and get a crack at the Birds.

Three of the four you mentioned will be 6a.

Ducking us again.....

Has anybody else notice that there is essentially only one poster that is against Highlands playing out of state teams when in turn thinks Highlands should be playing the best in the State.

How does "one" know that Highlands didn't attempt to contact the big boys and their open weeks just don't line up. I think I remember just a short 3 years ago, Highlands was playing Boyle Cty when Boyle was on a 30 game win streak. Now H could have played someone else but didn't. No ducking there. This past year, H plays PT and JH on the "road". No ducking there. Does this "one" know if BG or T contacted H to play a game?

Oh wait I know, it's because H schedules to their strength of upcoming teams. Yeah that's it.

Man, I love BGP!

2 more days!

Ducking us again.....

Aren't they going to be in 6a based on the next alignment numbers?
