Highlands to host 8A Christopher Columbus Miami (FL)

Featured Replies

Looks like Highlands has filled their 2014 bye week spot.

Christopher Columbus HS out of Miami Fl will be traveling to Ft Thomas to take on the Birds.

CC is a member of Florida's largest classification 8A.

So much for Highlands not stepping up to the plate.

Details are still being worked out for the ESPN telecast but Iam sure it will come to fruition.

That should be fun. Only Private school in 8A class in Florida and 7-5 last year from what I read.

I would like to hear more about this team. Anyone?

At first blush this sounds like a completely different animal than the clown show that showed up last year.

Check the yrs on them and they finish #1 overall team in Fl a few yrs back.

Coaches telling the kids alot of similarities to Cincy St X

Couple notable alumnus of CC hs.

Mike Shula and Brian Griese. I believe Griese works for ESPN, may or may not have had something to do with putting this game together with some other ESPN folks.

I give HHS credit for always looking outside the box and taking full advantage of their resources.

Will Columbus actually land at Covington Catholic and beat them, then go home and claim to have beaten Highlands?!

Playing a 7-5 team is considered stepping up?

Well, I took a peek on maxpreps to get some perspective. Seems like they had an off year last year. In 2012-2013 they played within 2 TD's of two top 25 teams in the country (St. Thomas Aquinas and Central (Miami, FL)) I'd say it should be a much better game than last year's.

Amazing that high school teams travel that far.

Why. HS baseball teams travel all over during spring break and HS basketball teams do the same during Christmas break, What's the difference?

Not sure how many schools answered the email that was sent out, but this to me sounds like a good get. I'm sure a lot of people will say Highlands "should" win. Playing a team with a 7-5 record from the previous year at first glance doesn't sound like they had a great year but they did make the Florida state playoffs. Heck, there are a lot of teams out there that would love to say they were 7-5 last year. Previous years records really don't mean a whole lot. New year and new team. Auburn can attest to that.

I'm just glad to have a 10th game. Very nice schedule for the Birds next year. Can't wait!

I'm glad they have 10 games too. I just thought saying they stepped up was an exaggeration a bit.

Difference? A week or more off

school and the chance to play multiple games to start

Sounds like they've had recent success in Florida's largest classification so I don't think it's much of an exaggeration.
