Just to really stir the pot up some, would that game have potentially happened during a win streak?

If it did, then BG may not have cared anyway. They'd have already set the record.

I appreciate everyone thinking the Purples will get the state record for consecutive wins but getting past St. X and McCallie this year will be the biggest and toughest completion we have faced EVER in Purples football. The reason I say that is because we will face these two teams without the most skilled set of players that has probably ever gone through the Purples program. Lets face it - Blackman, St. X, McCallie was a tough schedule last year but in my opinion there were only 20 or 30 teams in America that could have beat us last year. I know you may not agree with that statement but it is true.

I would love it as much as anyone to get "the streak" but for anyone who thinks that facing real competition this upcoming year is going to be easy is fooling themselves. We will miss number 12 and number 9!

With that said - I still think the Purples get another ring. We may lose a couple in the regular season but we will compete for a four peat!

You have to admit, it will be funny to see all the comments from the Blackman people about us not playing them. I can assure you, when we lose (if we lose) that the message boards will be flooded from the Volunteer state.

All that to say, lets bee realistic about this year squad. We are BG so we will expect to compete and have a chance to win every game but this by far will be the most difficult year we have had in a while - but hey, it is pretty cool when your most difficult year has you MAYBE losing 2 games and still competing for another ring. Good luck Purples - you can do it!

BG should have played them. Their facilities are great & it would have made BG better...win or lose. Blackman will be loaded. They have about everyone back. I would like to know why they opted out.

I don't know what Backman team has everyone back. The one that played BG started 10 seniors on defense last year and a handful on offense as well

Qb & running backs are back...several linemen as well.

From Zach Greenwell - Statement from Bowling Green coach Kevin Wallace on buying out of game at Blackman (Tenn.): "Bowling Green High School will not be playing at Blackman (Tn) High School in 2014. No public school funds were used to negate the contract. Bowling Green has a verbal agreement with a Kentucky school to replace the game on it’s 2014 schedule. When that contract is finalized, a release of the 2014 BGHS football schedule will follow."

You'll never find out why.
