9th Region Tournament

Featured Replies

.........

My only differences from Walter's prediction is I think CovCath wins the 35th with Holmes as runner-up, and I think Highlands makes it over Newport as the 36th's runner-up (assuming they don't do a blind draw and Highlands gets the Breds in the District semi's [i forget which districts draw and which earn their seeding]).

I also think Erik Goetz sees that Highlands team make the Regionals and beats his head into his desk over some of the Holy Cross rosters that never made a Regional because of being in a district with Holmes and CovCath.

Did Highlands have a recent coaching change?????

Did Highlands have a recent coaching change?????

No. Sorry if I jumped around and lost you. Erik Goetz, coaching at Beechwood, will potentially see a depleted, under-manned, and WAY below .500 Highlands team make a regional tournament and he was unable to ever do that while coaching Holy Cross with some really good teams, due in large part to the strength of the district he was in.

I don't think that both Boone and Cooper make it out of their District. I think that one of either Ryle or Conner pulls a mild upset to advance. Out of all the District tourneys that is the one I want to watch the most... should be very competitive.

I would agree. That district is such a coin flip it could very well come down to what big man stays out of foul trouble the longest will put his team in the W column the first round.

To tell you the truth, I thought Cooper would be almost a lock to make it to regionals until I read the Holmes Conner score from last night. These 4 teams can beat eachother on any given night.

This is current head coach Kevin Listerman's first year, and he has been there since summer (Correct me if I'm wrong).

Think he is referencing Goetz since Holy Cross's rosters of the pre-Campbell era have been similar to Highlands this year, but HC did not get to the region tourney often because Holmes and CovCath get there almost every year for the 35th.

Agreed. The draw is completely out of anyone's control once the Dist. are decided.

Will be big drama again, as the draw is huge for one of the big 3 (NCC, CCH, or Holmes-- who is hanging on to that last big 3 spot).

As a neutral fan, you want NCC and CCH opposite. Clearly two best teams. Holmes is dangerous, but no one else other than those 3 can win the region.

Why are we predicting the draw for the region?

You might as well predict lottery numbers.

I like Highlands over Newport to earn a berth in the tourney. Undermanned but when they play with 110% heart they are scary. Had Holmes in the ropes a couple times and have some momentum heading in. Newport on the other hand seems to be losing some luster. I think Snapp has been shutdown lately and my guess is the Birds put a physical defender on him the entire game next week.

That is the prime reason there should be no seeding,,roll the ball out and let them play and the winner advances......

I've laughed about this post off & on all day long.

No, seeding is a good thing for the district tourney because it makes the regular season count for something. You win the regular season games, you get rewarded with the higher seed in the district. Fans want to see the best teams in the regional not someone who got a lucky draw.

Seeding or no seeding,,still half of the teams making up the regionals are losers.....

There are more district runner-ups that win their regional tournament than you think
