The next step toward respectability for them was to beat a team that made the 9th Region Tournament last year.

Highlands earned it step with a 60-56 double overtime win over the Ryle Raiders (7-11) on Saturday in Fort Thomas. Highlands (6-11) entered the game with an 0-6 mark against 9th Region teams that played past districts last year. The Bluebirds will not play the make-up contests against Campbell County, Boone County, Pendleton County or Cincinnati Shroder.

Two seniors led the charge as Highlands won for the third time in four games. Brandon Hergott had 19 points and Drew Houliston pitched in with 15.

The Bluebirds play host to Covington Holy Cross on Tuesday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Congrats to the Birds!

HHS seems to heading in the right direction. First a fairly close game vs Holmes then a win over a top 10 team.

Stuhr was almost unstoppable for the Raiders. Congrats to this young man. He put on a one man show. Single handedly kept Ryle in the game. He finished with 32 points and a ton of rebounds.

Buten injures his shoulder on a drive to the bucket at the end of the first quarter. Birds up 17-9 at the time.

Ryle got their first lead early in the 4th. Game back and forth. HHS had chances to win the game at end of regulation and end of first overtime but missed shots. Finally got a small cushion at the end of the second OT and Ryle missed some deep 3's to account for the final score.

Stuhr was like a Superman out there, drawing fouls under the basket seemed easy for him. Congrats to him and the birds. Fun game to watch.

Stuhr had a big game last yr from what I remember.

Congrats to the Birds. Getting on a nice run.

Sounds like the tough play of the Birds carried over from last night. They are improving now that they are getting healthy and getting everyone on the same page.

Lets hope Buten comes back after hurting shoulder (same one he had surgery on last season?). Kid can play, he took it right at Bolden Fri night and came out firing today netting 10 in the 1st.

Who ran the Point the last 3 Qtrs?

I would have said Weyer but in the sets they used Harris which brought out Sturh and opened the floor. Fun game to watch. HHS is playing well! Gentleman make your free throws. Should have sealed the game at the line. Hats of to Weyer for some great defensive plays. They were a difference maker!! Hope Buten returns quickly boy is he fun to watch!! Lastly as mentioned in this thread #44 did it all for Ryle with one exception not picking up the 5th foul. I like his game not flashy but a beast on the block!!

Weyer ran the point for the second and most of the third period. When Stuhr picked up his 4th foul and Ryle had tied up the game, Listerman brought Harris out to run the point. It was a great move. Stuhr played good defense, but could not pressure the ball with the four fouls. HHS was able to get into their sets and run the offense.

HHS has won 4 or last 6. The two losses are to NCC and Holmes. They have worked themselves into the conversation of the bottom half of the top ten in the ninth region.

Really hope Buten's injury is not serious. He is having a great second half of the season. Not sure that its possible to get much more out of a 5'5" player.

Keep it up boys.. Believe and work hard and good things will come..:thumb:
