Incredible game. Glad I got out the house to come watch that one. Wayne is one of the most fundamentally sound teams I've seen play.

Yup, down 66-50 and went on a 21-5 run to tie the game at 71.

Naw. I have to work and I'm hoping to be able to see Wayne County play when they come to Boyle on the 18th.

Wayne County remained undefeated for another day, but it needed a furious finish to stay that way.

The No. 8 Cardinals rallied from 16 points down with five minutes left to beat No. 13 Knott County Central 81-77 Saturday in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette.

 

 

Knott Central Coach B.B. King wasn’t surprised by Wayne County’s fight.

“I told my kids they wouldn’t quit, even when we were up 16,” he said.

“Foul trouble hurt us, and we didn’t play smart. We were trying to run over people.”

Justice had 32 points and nine rebounds. Evan Hall, a 6-7 junior, had 22 points and nine rebounds. Chance Cornett added 11 points.

Knott Central puts its perfect record on the line Sunday when it plays host Montgomery County in the Joe B. Hall Prep Classic. Knott Central plays Fleming County in the same event

How we lookin?

Finally got to see Wayne County play. I was super impressed. Absolutely no quit in those boys. They play so hard you cant help but like them. They should be ranked higher. Boy they do love to shoot the three though, hope that doesnt let them down at some point. Great team though.

Knott Central mist have played fantastic if they had a 16 points lead, but they have to be able to finish. They let this one slip away in the final minutes.

I thought Blevins was great for Wayne, and Perkins is the type of kid that every team loves to have. Good enough to score double figures, but doesn't need to score to contribute. Played extremely hard.

Stearns also played well for the Cardinals. Woods did not get going offensively, but he was money at the line.

Wayne is a fun team to watch as they play hard and fast and shoot a ton of threes.

 

For Knott Central, I thought Hall was fantastic. He had a viscous dunk (I thought he probably got fouled on it), but was called for a T for hanging on the rim. I wasn't shocked by the T, but thought it was a poor decision, because at the speed he was going, and with a defender right on him, it would have been dangerous to come down quickly. He did pull himself up a little, but I thought it was more out of necessity than not. If the call was the correct one, the rule needs to be changed!

Knott was called for a ton of charges, and I thought they were almost always good calls. They seem to just go to the rim regardless of if a defender is in front of them. They could have been called for a few more offensive fouls if the refs would have been interested in calling the push off.

Justice scored a bunch, but it wasn't ever easy for him.

 

The crowd was great. Wayne and Knott both had bigger crowds than either Lexington Catholic or Lafyette in the nightcap.

This was an extremely fun game to watch from a neutral perspective!
