Who will be the next QB at Ryle

Good HS QB's have so many intangibles that come natural to them.

You show me a good HS QB and Ill show you a kid who is a gamer in just about every sport he plays. I'm not talking about just being the best athlete, either.

Ryle have any kids who are standout basketball and baseball players on their team at QB or any other "skill" spots?

I believe Brandt plays basketball and baseball, England basketball and track, ryltewski, maybe baseball, not sure on the others.

Good kids to start with right there.

Had a dad of a youth leaguer the other day ask what's the best thing his son could do to better his skills at QB? I said keep playing baseball. (Pitcher. 13 years old)

Anyone wanting to be a starter for Coach Engler, assuming he will implement an offense similar to LexCath, really needs to get some solid training at a high level. Summer QB camps would be good.

Its more than 7-on-7s or long throwing. Its technique, timing and placement. Slants, quick-outs, crossing routes, etc. Lots of different requirements. And good scanning and vision is needed to check down to the 2nd or 3rd receiver or see the open field in broken plays.

And like HD says above - do all of that with a 300-lb lineman bearing down on you.

Yep.

People want to know why some places don't run wide open offenses at the high school level more than they do? Well, let me be more precise, several run them...few are really good at it. This is the reason.

It ain't like going to the nursery, buying a plant...giving it some sunshine and water and all turns out beautiful.

Expensive. Expensive. Expensive. They better have a little/a lot of "it" or you can do all the offseason drill, film and board work you want...and, without "It"...then it ain't happening.

^^with that said, Ryle definitely has the kids to pull from and that helps a ton, obviously.

Coach Engler and Ryle will be just fine.

I know one TCM mommy who has her eyes on that prize for her kid. He is absolutely incapable, but she's 'connected' in more ways than one so I'm anxious to hear how it turns out. She refuses to believe the 5 or 6 coaches who have already told her he can't throw because she knows better! And I quote "I toss with him all the time in the backyard and he throws beautifully". End of our friendship when I asked, "In pads?"

You can't just take an athlete and make him a QB. Boone had to try that with a great athlete and it failed. You have to find a kid who can throw the ball. Period. If he an also run, great.

Sometimes you can Clyde. The Ammons kid from Franklin County who later was the starting QB at Georgetown was just that. RB until he was a Frosh under Coach Walker.

I will admit I don't know how good some of the ones you mentioned are at QB, but I would lean toward Brandt or Pogliano unless there is a sophmore that can beat them out. I will tell you why.

I don't know much about Rytlewski but if he is a senior this year and couldn't win the job last year then I wouldn't think he would be a good fit. The 2 Juniors would be my pick because the winner should get 2 years in the system. 1 year QB's doesn't help the program that much in the LNG run IMO.

England IMO is the perfect TE and could do huge things if put there. I wouldn't want to put him in a position that would hinder his best skill set and that is his size and hands. I think it would be a huge wasted talent putting him at QB.

England playing TE would be ridiculous. I hope for Englands sake, you don't join Coach Engler's staff.

Hmmmmmm....I think i know

I didn't mention him because I though since last year was hist first year playing Qb he might need one more before varsity. He is an athlete, you make a convincing point.

I thought O'Hara played QB all his life, nearly a decade, anyone else on this?

I will say this, O'Hara is a great athlete!

O'hara will be best bet for the next three years but if TCM wants to win in year 1, why would you start a soph...unless he is the best. I would imagine England gets the nod unless O'Hara impresses the new coach.

He is only listed 6'1 185 on the basketball roster kind of small for a TE.

Not sure how that will help the kid improve his QB skills. 70% of qb play is with his feet and while pitching will help with accuracy they are totally different throws. Pitching is nothing compared to throwing on the run and avoiding pressure keeping his eyes down the field and finding an open receiver.

If being a pitcher is the only thing he's gonna do to become a better qb he'll be holding his helmet on Friday nites or Saturday mornings.
