Who will be the next QB at Ryle

Featured Replies

Since we have a new offensive coach who will surely open it up. Who will be under center? I have a favorite so I want to stay out. Just wanted to know what the Ryle fan's think. Who gives us the best chance to win? Obvious choices: Rytlewski -Senior, Brandt -Junior, England -Junior, Pogliano -Junior(JV QB) All played Qb last year.

I would go with England.

I have no idea but much like Coach Griffith is doing at Boone, Coach Engler will need to develop everyone with a QB pulse and the starter will become obvious.

Take O'hara, if you are starting with a clean slate. He is definitely the best athlete out of the group. I like three year starters. Fiedler (Beechwood), Bir (CCH),and Hempel (Ryle) were all great young talents.

I didn't mention him because I though since last year was hist first year playing Qb he might need one more before varsity. He is an athlete, you make a convincing point.

Thought England was a RB? He is a very good athlete.

Played some Qb against dixie, and against Butler in the playoff game. Seen the games live and seen the youtube video, last two games on his sophomore tape.

You can't just take an athlete and make him a QB. Boone had to try that with a great athlete and it failed. You have to find a kid who can throw the ball. Period. If he an also run, great.

When will the new coach be able to start working with the team? A lot of, well most, qb development is done in the off season. The sooner he can start working with the qbs the better, especially since it will be completely new to everyone.

To be honest they can all throw the ball. But can they all run? That is a question.

I will admit I don't know how good some of the ones you mentioned are at QB, but I would lean toward Brandt or Pogliano unless there is a sophmore that can beat them out. I will tell you why.

I don't know much about Rytlewski but if he is a senior this year and couldn't win the job last year then I wouldn't think he would be a good fit. The 2 Juniors would be my pick because the winner should get 2 years in the system. 1 year QB's doesn't help the program that much in the LNG run IMO.

England IMO is the perfect TE and could do huge things if put there. I wouldn't want to put him in a position that would hinder his best skill set and that is his size and hands. I think it would be a huge wasted talent putting him at QB.

Yep.

Also better find one that doesn't crap down his legs, too.

Every July, you see several some kids that look like a million bucks in things like 7v7, then come the season and live bullets coming after them...it turns into the scene from "Unnecessary Roughness". What's the QB's name at first, Pumpernick or something like that? DL starts rushing...feels the slightest of heat and he goes behind the ref "Blow the whistle! Blow the whistle!!"

Good HS QB's have so many intangibles that come natural to them.

You show me a good HS QB and Ill show you a kid who is a gamer in just about every sport he plays. I'm not talking about just being the best athlete, either.

Ryle have any kids who are standout basketball and baseball players on their team at QB or any other "skill" spots?

I have confidence that Coach Engler will develop several QBs each and every year. No idea who emerges this year but it will be Coach E's choice without parental say-so.

Anyone wanting to be a starter for Coach Engler, assuming he will implement an offense similar to LexCath, really needs to get some solid training at a high level. Summer QB camps would be good.

Its more than 7-on-7s or long throwing. Its technique, timing and placement. Slants, quick-outs, crossing routes, etc. Lots of different requirements. And good scanning and vision is needed to check down to the 2nd or 3rd receiver or see the open field in broken plays.

And like HD says above - do all of that with a 300-lb lineman bearing down on you.
