Yes, but I would argue that Belfry isn't the norm. Plus, the triple option, and the fact that you have to rep it so heavily (to the exclusion of other stuff), makes in-game adjustments more difficult. I would also say that there is a difference between the belly (Belfry) and the veer (which I think the old Garrard teams primarily ran). I am not saying it can't be successful, but I wouldn't say it is the best offense to run. Just my opinion.

You adjust your playcalling, formations, etc., to your players, but you can't have an option offense one season, then go to a power, to a spread, etc. etc. There MUST be a system.

 

I have my opinion on the Belfry thing but its not allowed to be discussed on here, so we need to trust that Coach Perry will put the ball in his playmakers hands whether is be on the ground or through the air and if that happens he will be successful on the offensive side of the ball but we must not forget about the defensive side either. I don't think there is an offensive scheme that doesn't require a lot of rep work. I think the key is to not do too much and be very good on the defensive side of the ball. Unless you have enough #'s to 2 platoon time is also a deciding factor.

Agreed... I want to echo Booby, who said that Coach Perry is probably smart enough to figure all this out. It will be interesting to see who his assistants will be. I don't know if it was on here or over on another board, but I think I saw that there are a couple of coaches in the building he might take a look at???

I don't think neither his OC or DC will come from within the school. There might be a position coach filled by someone inside the school but that would be it. MO!!

I've heard a couple of names being mentioned but nothing I would rely on. It should be interesting.

The people I heard it from aren't real reliable so I don't want to put names out there until I'm sure who they are going to be. It won't take him long to get his coaches in place. The fun is just beginning.

From the people I have talked to, (very reliable by the way), Perry is the coach but no one knows who his possible assistants could be. I think he will keep a couple of the hometown boys that help with the team now, and bring in all new OC and DC. We shall see!

I think that's the big question lots of folks have. It will be interesting to see what direction he goes with his assistant hiring.

Perry is the going to be announced as coach this Friday at the Grand Theatre in Lancaster. Time is 4:00.....it was on facebook...."Bring Jerry Perry back as coach" or what ever the saying was! No need to speculate, have sources or wait for Grashem to say it......it's a done deal.

 

 

I have an idea who he is trying to get as assistants but I won't say until I can verify it to be true.
