Chuck Smith - Success - Failure - Boyle County - Take #2

Featured Replies

Serious questions here. What does Chuck Smith "have" to achieve to be successful at Boyle this time around?

In other words, does he have to at least do as well as last time? Boyle is certainly a much better program that we he took over last time.

Should he have to win more championships than he did before because the program is better and there now six classes?

If he doesn't dominate, will he be considered a failure?

Is Boyle County the only football program in America that Chuck Smith could be considered a failure at if he doesn't stack up the titles?

I think he does have to win another title for Chuck Part Deux to meet expectations

Certainly more than one, right? And how long does he get?

Depends on realignment, if they drop to 3A it could happen much quicker.

I personally hope Boyle stays in the same class as some of the power schools, just to see what happens.

To answer your questions, yes probably more than one or at least multiple trips to the finals. As far as how long, I'm not sure what Boyle has but I'd say if they aren't in at least the semi-state in four years I'll be shocked.

I think as long as Boyle County is a constant contender it's a success. Let's face it even the great "Chuck Norris" can't compete with 5 straight titles and 6 straight appearances. That's not going to happen again. There is no Tamme's, and Leffew's walking the hall ways.

He didn't have to return there honestly, but something drew him back. Everyone can say what they want about that's where he won before, but I think that it boils down to where did he have to possibly do less during the day, to focus more on what he would do with the football program. Boyle Co. > Madison Central @ that point.

His minimum is the years that he needs to get to 27 for retirement. If he doesn't win one in that time, then he may stay on longer, but if he does, then @ that point it becomes a chess game of does he test the waters again (not sure how old he will be) of returning to college, OR does he stay on 3 more hears for a full teacher retirement pension?

I bet a certain private school in the Lexington area doesn't like this move at all.

Does Brandon come back and work for his dad and become "Coach in waiting"

Matt Quinn (Mr. Football candidate), Jeff Duggins (won it), Boomer Johnson (UK baseball signee before he was seriously injured, all fine now of course), etc. etc.

Chuck will do well. Has no choice. In his and the programs DNA, but people need to be realistic, too.

What is the Boyle Co sched this year?

I think Boyle will win the title the first year they're in 3A. I wouldn't believe that if they were still in 4A.

Someone said it in another thread...He has everything to lose and very little to gain by this move. Now, if he can win another one, then yes, he etches his name in the stone of KY Football a good deal deeper...if he gets there and gets beat a couple of times, his earlier work solidifies his legacy...but if he fails to get there and flounders in the 2nd and 3rd rounds for a couple of years, then some (not total) damage will be done...but then again, how much damage can you do to a guy's reputation that is backed by 5 rings?

Coach Smith will always be one of the greatest in my mind but to answer your question people will say it was the talent and not the coach. I would hate to see that happen.

Hard to make that argument coming off an undefeated regular season. They have plenty of talent. It will be interesting to see what happens with the offense.

It'd be funny if they won state this year. :lol2:

He needs to win a title to be considered a success this time around, maybe more than one. However, nothing he does will affect his place in KY coaching lore, at least not negatively. It's already set.
