When will 1st cuts take place?

When will 1st cuts take place?

 

I would assume this week. HHS has so much depth now that they don't have to wait long.

Today.

Yeah, I heard there were cuts today. Actually heard their 45+/- was pretty much set but you never know if the is a diamond in the rough out there you want to keep around. And it's required to have tryouts right?

Trying to disect all of the discussion here regarding the baseball team for 2014. Based on what I just read there were cuts yesterday. What was the decision regarding the 8th graders that were desiring to tryout? Do they have enough frosh to not need 8th graders? Teddy mentions 45 guys, are you saying that these are the kids that made the team? How many kids do they have in total after the cuts? Based upon what I read, there are only 4 to 6 basketball kids coming to the program, are they all in that 45 or only the ones that are returning from last year?

45 is based on 15 per team frosh, junior varsity, and varsity. I have been told that JB will see what he has as far as pitching with the frosh. If he thinks he will need more arms then he will ask a couple 8th graders to tryout..

Does anyone have a roster yet? How about a schedule?

I'm guessing the 45 would include those basketball players. Not certain though. I think the coaches pretty much know who is going to be there.

There is no doubt the emergence of Jones and Ramey has some eyes on Highlands. Those players should help them through districts and the 1st game of the region. The competitive schedule this year should prove how deep they can actually go. There seems to be a resurgence of baseball pride and that's exciting. Mound depth is the question to be answered for a regional win and state run IMO. They have some arms, it depends how they evolved in the off season.

There arms are probably the strongest part of their team..

Highlands was 1 win over .500 last year. 5th in the region in runs scored and barely 4th in runs allowed. That resume gets you to regional with an early exit. Bottom line they need to give up one less run per game and score 20 more runs to match what Beechwood did last year who is returning everyone. Don't get me wrong, I think Highlands has a great bunch of players, they are fiery and compete. I'm not giving them a 30 win season just yet but I think they have thrown their hat in the ring.

Heard Highlands hosted some 9th region umpires this past week to work on their ball/strike calling skills. Was told there are some newbies to the force. Here's to "Blue" having a good year.
