January 27, 201412 yr I love Mexican food. In Frankfort the best one is La Fiesta aka "The Mexican Monkey". Hands down the best food and service. Plus having the BIG 32 ounce Dos Equis Amber Draft in the frosted mug is fantastic too. No way jvdfc. Casa Fiesta is the best Mexican place in Frankfort and not even close. Now, I'm judging based soley on the food, not a 'rita fan and am usually the one driving so don't usually drink at all, so that part of it I can't speak to.
January 27, 201412 yr I have to go Italian. I'm guessing that it is true that we don't have really good authentic Italian here. Another I would add to the list are the chain steak places like Longhorn, and Outback. I can do much better on my grill.

Now, I like those cuisines just fine, but it's overkill to the extreme, so I would say those fit the thread category. Where's the Cajun places? Middle eastern? Come on. Something else other than Chinese or Mexican.

Don't know much about NKY, but here there is a distinct difference between "La Hacienda", a little Mexican restaurant near where I live, other retaurants like that, and "Miguels Mexican Seafood and Grill" on Kennedy Blvd. in Tampa. Miguels is kind of your upscale Mexican cuisine. Their Carne Asada is supposed to made with Kobe beef, and I will attest to the tenderness and flavor of the steak. You won't find that at your typical Mexican restaurant. I don't understand the fascination with "PF Changs". I've eaten much better Chinese food from the three little family run joints I pass on my way home from work.
January 27, 201412 yr I like Mexican food too. But like others have said, the very best Mexican food you've ever had is... only just a little better than worst you've ever had, at least around here. I fell the same about Chinese food. Being from the East Coast/Mid Atlantic states, the one thing I miss is a quality Seafood place, that uses fresh Seafood, not frozen. There is a difference. Of course when the nearest beach is 650 miles away, the fresh part is tough to pull off.
January 27, 201412 yr Well said, hog trough is my name for the above mentioned restaurants. My father-in-law loves Golden Coral and insists we go there for his birthday. So I get dragged there against my will once a year. The salad bar is ok, but I am a fan of the soft serve ice cream! There are some good chinese buffets. I like the chinese/japanese buffet in Alexandria Green shopping strip. They have a good selection, seems fresh, it's clean, and they'll prepare a plate fresh in front of you with your choice of fix ins. Casual Chinese in South Newport has the best Combo Fried Rice and Egg Rolls I've ever had. They've continued to impress for over 15 years! I used to pummel the hog trough at Frischs Breakfast Bar but have since become more disciplined and order a #2 for half the price and a lot healthier in that I'm not eating three times the portion. What are folks favorites for Mexican in NKY? I like Rio Grande and have enjoyed Montoyas in Ft. Mitchell as well. Your first paragraph reminded me of a story. Back when my wife and I were engaged we had a bunch of extended family in town for a wedding shower. Aunts, uncles, cousins, ect.... It so happened that my birthday was the same weekend. Since all of the family was in my parents were going to have everyone over to their house for a cook out for my birthday. Since everyone was in town my grandmother decided she wanted to take everyone out to lunch that same day to Golden Coral. Obviously you don't say no to grandma so I got Golden Coral as my birthday dinner. I'd rather have eaten rat butt.

January 27, 201412 yr Never at CiCi's Pizza, but used to eat a Pizza Hut lunch buffet while in Texas working. The options their were few and far between.
