Record breaking in before 3pt. shot era of high school sports.

Around the time that I was in high school I ran the scoreboard at the Boys Club in Covington on Saturday mornings for a couple of seasons for the Covington Recreation League. It was then I had the pleasure of watching Scott Draud play as an 11 & 12 year old. It was apparent then that he was a special player. I had never before seen a kid of his age with such a developed shot with such excellent perfect form. His IQ of the game was also very high unlike what you would normally see for his age group. It was obvious then that he would make an impact in high school, it just wasn't in my mind at the time that he'd go on to be the highest scorer of all time in the 9th, but when he did it all just seemed to add up.

I would have to keep track throughout the day of who the high scorer was for each team that played so it could be submitted to the Ky Post. When Scott's team played (wish that I could remember the name of the team), I could without fail, before the game started, just write his name in and put the total in after the game was over.

Certainly a one of a kind player that only comes around once in a great while. In my youth before him there were certainly some real talented players, but Dicky Beal is the only one that comes to mind other than Draud to having such amazing pre-high school days as they did.

I do know that when Draud put up 69 against Holmes it would of 84 with a 3 point line. No way anybody would of caught Draud with a 3 point line. I think his High School career FT % was something like 94-95%.....That's absurd considering the attempts he had through 4 years. Scott Draud use to pack the house just to see him play.

Actually 87.6 % See page 4.

My younger brother keeps talking about a game that Draud played in against Holmes when Jack Jennings (Bing!) was on the team... and Druad went to the FT line late in the game and missed 2 FTs in a row while Highlands was down by one. Holmes went on to win. Can anyone verify this story?

I think people are overlooking the efficiency aspect of being a scorer. Draud put up big numbers but averaged a little over 27 shots per game to get there.

I'm not sure if Hatton has ever had a game with that many shots. For example, he scored 35 the other night against Conner but only had 13 shot attempts.

So it will be 28 years since Draud set the mark. It wouldn't surprise me to see Hatton's record stand that long.

Is there anyone on pace right now to come close?

I guess the closest would be Bolden but BH is going to have 3,000 points when he's finished.

Great point. I checked KHSAA records and Draud took 821 shots his senior year.

Draud is #6 all time in number of field goal attempts.

He is #7 in field goals made.

His career shooting percentage based on those numbers is 52%.

I've enjoyed watching BH play over the last 5 years as much as I've enjoyed probably any.

With that said Scott Draud is the best male shooter ever in the 9th.

Fixed that for you.

If it was mentioned on here, I missed it...what was Draud's point total?
