I do know that when Draud put up 69 against Holmes it would of 84 with a 3 point line. No way anybody would of caught Draud with a 3 point line. I think his High School career FT % was something like 94-95%.....That's absurd considering the attempts he had through 4 years. Scott Draud use to pack the house just to see him play.

One step inside half court and Draud was in range. Scott was the best hs shooter I have ever seen.

I've enjoyed watching BH play over the last 5 years as much as I've enjoyed probably any.

Shooter... maybe. But best shooter vs best scorer are two different things. And scoring and/or shooting vs inferior competition makes a difference. Again Wilt Chamberlain would NEVER be able to score 100 points in a game in today's NBA. The competition level is way harder today.

I'm not as convinced there was the inferior competition that you mention.

 

The competition isn't great today. There are 3 or 4 strong teams and then a slew of average teams. No different than then.

The overall individual athleticism and talent today is way better. There are more kids playing AAU basketball today than back then, more kids training year round. It is not just high school basketball. College basketball and NBA are different today. Every year is not equal in terms of talent and competition level.

 

Maybe another example to help illustrate my point is looking at Major League Baseball historically... every year is different as far as the talent of pitching and hitting is concerned. What If Sports Baseball does a good job of assigning a real number value to the quality of pitching in any given year.

Maybe not but when Draud played was his team playing the same type of schedule that Hatton has been up against his whole high school career? Dixie has been in multiple tournaments in the regular season throughout Hatton's career that allowed Hatton and Dixie to see teams they normally wouldn't see. I think that gives some validity to the argument that Draud's competition may have been inferior.

 

I'll also add that I am asking if Draud's competition overall can compare. I don't know first hand and I am assuming he went to Highlands based on me recognizing some of the responder's affiliation.

2865 points isn't even in the top 30 in KY high school scoring. And the career record is 4,337 points by King Kelly Coleman (1953-56 ... long before the 3 pointer). Are you talking about the Dixie Heights scoring record?

Anybody else remember when I believe it was Draud's JR year and they played Dennis Scott's Nationally ranked Flint Hill team over at the Coliseum. Draud dropped I think a little over 40 in that game. That was the day I knew Draud could play at the next level and at a High Level. All Freshman SEC team his 1st year at Vandy. I still believe if you matched shot charts from Draud's era and compared them to Hatton's, you would be very surprised at the difference. I don't have that info but I'm sure it's obtainable if someone wanted to dig deep enough. As Raiderbird said, when Draud crossed midcourt he was in range. No exaggeration!

I have only one observation about all of this talk. If the 3 point shot makes it so much easier for someone to break Mr. Draud's record then why is Hatton the only player in the last 29 years that has even come close. The kid actually has a little talent to go along with the 3 point shot...

So it will be 28 years since Draud set the mark. It wouldn't surprise me to see Hatton's record stand that long.
