QB - Who Do You Build Your Franchise Around?

Featured Replies

Heard Cowherd talking about this today.

Let's say you're building a team for the next 5 to 7 years.

Which QB are you selecting?

I'm assuming you're talking about who'll be available in this year's draft?

Any QB. Current NFL or college kid. You're building a team for the next 5 to 7 years.

I'll take Cam Newton or Russell Wilson. Both young and potentially will get even better.

Aaron Rodgers without question. I think he can stay at the highest level for that long. Brady/Manning, no. Brees, doubt it as well.

For the guys coming in to their own, Luck would be your safest pick I believe.

It was Rodgers or Luck for me.

Andy Dalton a distant third.

Luck, he's still a few years away from his prime, then prime and cruise control till retirement.

So if he hits his prime in 4 years let's say, that will be 2-3 years at his best, which is what the question is asking. Rodgers I feel is in his prime now for the next 5-7 years.

I look at it from this perspective. I first ask who I believe, today, are the best QBs. I think it is Brady and Manning (1/2 whatever order) and #3 is not even close, imo. Rodgers is who I would slate in to that spot assuming he is at 100% and I feel he is now starting his prime years. He has only played in 6 full seasons now, with this one being cut short due to injury.

I'll go out on the limb and take Jameis Winston...

Rodgers will be 31 in 2014 and on the back half of his prime, Luck will be 25. Building today for your teams future.. I'll take the guy transitioning to his prime in 1-2 years.

Not saying he's my pick (I'd take Luck), but what about this Bortles kid? Does he have what it takes??

Andrew Luck

Luck, Rogers, Manning, Brady are easy, safe choices. I have no problem with any of them. But I personally enjoy watching athletic QBs with the ability to break down a defense in crucial situations with their legs. And, also, being able to pass is, of course, a bonus.
