Yeah Woody definitely has a dark side, but I don't think it's a sadistic twisted dark side.

I believe he even says something like, "do you all need this to be admissible" when he is telling them he wants beer.

 

Marty just doesn't seem the type to be involved in something like this IMO. He's a bad husband and father, he's a cheater and had a problem with alcohol...and he's definitely got a temper...

 

But it just doesn't seem like he would be this type of killer. He seems like someone who would get mad about something and unload a magazine on someone...not torture, rape and leave for the entire world to see.

 

 

I don't necessarily mean that Marty is the killer, just that he might be involved. He had a wife and young daughters back in 95. Could someone higher up use them as leverage to Madge sure Rust didn't uncover the whole group? Then once they had their"monster" silence him in order to rap up the case? It's just a very cool show with so many layers that nothing would surprise me.

The who-done-it at this point seems secondary to the character development of Marty and especially Rust. Whose orders led to the murder or suicide of the murder suspect that Rust slapped around in the interrogation room? Was the phone call from the middle of nowhere just a red herring? Why did Rust put on latex gloves when examining the little wooden structures in the abandoned schoolhouse?

Anytime you are going to pick up evidence you are probably gonna want to use gloves...

 

First off because you don't want to contaminate the crime scene with your fingerprints everywhere. If you go back to the first episode when they first look at the body, Rust puts on latex gloves before examining the scene.

That's another theory I've seen thrown around.

 

Its possible. They're good liars. They're good at lying about the same thing. They came up with the shoot out and the sick dad stuff and stuck with it. They stuck with the shoot out during all interviews immediately after and 17 years later in the interviews in 2012.

 

Maybe they staged their "falling out" and Rust did what he does best...went under cover.

Thus far the common tie with the ritualistic deaths is religion. Fire gutted the church, hurricane wiped out the religious school. Are the girls' deaths just human sacrifice to appease the almighty? Remember Rust's comments while he and Marty stood at the tent revival ... about how dumb the "true believers" are. Might also explain the lengthy gap in the timeline.

^I've seen a lot of speculation that it's the governor's brother (whomever it was that was assembling the task force), and that's why he was wanting them to take over the case right away....:idunno: Only got 3 more episodes to find out.

That's a theory I hadn't thought of. It'd be quite the twist in the story

Re-watched episode 4...

 

Who Goes There:

 

• They go back and talk to Charlie Lang who gives them some more info on Ledoux.
   
  
• Charlie says he's a chemist and a cook and that he showed Ledoux pictures of Dora.
   
  
• Charlie told them Tyrone Weems likely knows where Ledoux is.
   
  
• He says there's a place Ledoux talked about down south where "all the rich men go to devil worship"
   
  
• Weems leads them to the Iron Crusaders, who Cohle is familiar with.
   
  
• Cohle and Hart eventually find out where Ledoux is and Cohle goes back under cover to get Ginger, who is they think will lead them to Ledoux.
   
  

 

It seems like this episode was mainly about them finding Ledoux. I'm sure I missed some important things along the way. There's so much in this show that you would probably have to watch each episode 3-4 times to see everything. One of the most important things I think I noticed was when Charlie Lange tells them about the place where "rich men go to devil worship". That's interesting...

The preacher does the cross on his chest backwards (I'm not catholic so sorry I don't know the formal name) rewatch it. He might of even started at the bottom but went wallet watch and not watch wallet.
