The way Marty executed LeDoux made me wonder if he is involved and did it to silence him.

 

My thoughts exactly.....I'm guessing he is. When you couple the way he executed him, how he went psycho on his mistress when she took home another guy, and the scene he caused at the hospital with his wife, it all foreshadows him as something much darker than what he's letting on IMO.

 

I also think Cohle knows it's Marty.

Wasn't there a mention of "The Man with the Scars" towards the end of last night's episode? Could that be the guy who was castrated that was with the preacher in the earlier episode?

I don't think so. Remember they mentioned that Dora attended several of their services with a tall man with scars? I think that is who they are talking about.

You all are thinking much different than I am.

 

Hart has a temper and if he kills someone it will be because of that temper (that's why he murdered Ledoux). He was angry because he found the two kids...he didn't murder him to cover anything up. I don't think Hart has anything to do with the murders.

 

As for Cohle, I think he is using the 2012 detectives because he is still investigating the case. As soon as he saw what they had, he was done with them. Would also explain why he was at the crime scene. I think it's possible he has a lot of evidence he's gathered in storage and that's why he wouldn't let them search it. We can be pretty certain he's not the murderer, or at least that's how I feel, because we see him investigating the murders in the past.

^I've seen a lot of speculation that it's the governor's brother (whomever it was that was assembling the task force), and that's why he was wanting them to take over the case right away....:idunno: Only got 3 more episodes to find out.

Didn't they say he died in 2010? Even with that, it's still possible he was involved. Some theories think the Governor himself might be involved and that all of the lower guys they've went after (Ledoux) are just soldiers for the bigger people.

I just re-watched episode 1 and here's the things I think are important. Feel free to add to this. I might try and do this for every episode. This most recent episode has really got me into this show even more. I'm also a little bored. :lol2:

*In 1995 Hart and Cohle investigate a murder of Dora Lange where she is found with Antlers on her knees, etc...with the stick figures near her body.

*Lange's ex (currently in prison) says she told him she met a "King"

*Through their investigation they find out about Marie Fontenot, a girl who disappeared five years earlier. This case was apparently not investigated because the police believed she was taken by her dad, where she was better off anyways.

*Cohle finds a stick figure similar to the one found at the murder scene at the Fontenot's. I checked on Wikipedia and it says that they were at Fontenos uncle's house and they found it in a dilapidated playhouse.

*Another report of a girl being chased through the woods by a "green eared spaghetti monster"

 

Looks kinda similar to the lawn mower a few episodes later right?

 

*Reverend Tuttle, brother of Governor Eddie Tuttle, is apparently trying to form an Anti-Christian Crimes task force.

 

In 2012 Detectives are interviewing Hart and Cohle several days apart regarding their investigation.

 

I noticed at one point the younger Detective starts to ask Cohle about him being off the grid for about 8 years. And I believe he starts to say something about how right when he comes back...at this point the other Detective cuts him off...that's when Cohle says something like, "How could the killer be back if we already caught him? Start asking the right ***** questions"

Episode 2...

 

 

"Seeing Things":

 

*Hart and Cohle interview Dora Lange's mom and she says she saw her recently and she had been going to a church. She did not remember the name.

 

*They interviewed Lange's friend, Carla, next who also mentioned a church. She believed Dora was using drugs and high the last time she saw her.

 

*They discover a "ranch" where Lange used to stay. The "Madam" of the ranch recognizes Dora as does a younger girl there. Hart and Cohle take a bag from the ranch that belonged to Dora.

 

*Inside the bag they find her diary. In the diary Lange wrote "I closed my eyes and saw the Yellow King moving through the forest. The Kings children were marked. They became his angels. Carcosa"

 

They also found a flyer for a church.

 

*We see Hart's kids little crime scene with their toys...which is kinda odd.

 

*We find out about the task force designed to look into cult related crimes...and they're interested in the Lange case. Major Quesada says this task force is important to the Commander and Governor's office...

 

They're pressured to give it up to the task force. Major says Tuttle is lighting a fire under it...

 

*They find the church where a picture is painted on the wall. There are also what appears to be bible verses on the wall as well.

I watched to inside the show on HBO's website. The producer made an interesting point that I had missed. When Rust had the beer brought in and started drinking whiskey it not only showed that he was struggling with alcoholism--it also made any statements that he made from that point on inadmissible.

I'm curious as to what the circumstances will be that lead to Rust no longer being a cop whether it be fired, forced retirement, etc.

Since he had spent so much time deep undercover I wonder if he discovered exactly how high up in the force/government that the conspiracy goes and he knew he couldn't continue to investigate it as an active officer and his life was in danger from uncovering what he had uncovered. Then when he thought he was getting enough evidence to expose things he resurfaced to try and get the rest of the information? The timing is curious, especially given that HB20 pointed out that Tuttle died the same year that Rust resurfaced.

 

One nice thing about this: since next season will focus on a different case and different characters we won't be left with a cliffhanger until next January.

Marty just doesn't seem the type to be involved in something like this IMO. He's a bad husband and father, he's a cheater and had a problem with alcohol...and he's definitely got a temper...

 

But it just doesn't seem like he would be this type of killer. He seems like someone who would get mad about something and unload a magazine on someone...not torture, rape and leave for the entire world to see.

I've seen some others who think the same way re: the conspiracy going up much higher. Like I said before, once Cohl saw what the detectives had on their 2012 murders he was pretty much done with them.
