You guys might be on to something re: Marty's father-in-law. Didn't even consider going in that direction. We also still don't know the reason that the older girl, Audrey, drew the sex acts when she was only around 7-8 years old. Had to be based on something, right? Then again, the scar-faced giant might be just a lone wolf, like the meth maker that Marty executed.

Exactly. That was a year later than depicted in the film. In 2002 most plans were going from analog phones like the old Nokias to digital ones. Most plans didn't even include texting, you were charged for messages sent or received and they were pretty much just text.

 

Camera phones were introduced in Japan in 2001 and didn't really begin to take off in the US until 2003. I know it is a little thing but it just didn't fit with the story. Movie mistakes bother me.

I think its obvious that something happened to Audrey. Almost so obvious it wouldn't surprise me if they went in another direction with what Marty sees on the video. Like perhaps Maggie or the father in law is involved and Audrey witnessed something at FIL's house.

I wonder if it is something to do with Audrey or Maggie and it was obtained by Rust when he broke into Rev. Tuttle's houses? It is interesting that the Reverend died under suspicious circumstances--possibly suicide, and that Rust told the lady with Munchausen syndrome by proxy that she should kill herself. Perhaps he obtained that video and gave the Reverend a suggestion?

The girl on the bottom right looks like the girl Rust told to kill herself IMO.

One visual that jumped out at me from Episode 6 was Rust's map pinpointing all the victims. Seemed to be a west-to-east line in the southern part of the state not far from the gulf. Wonder if the killer is a shrimper or fisherman. "Yellow King" could be name of a fishing vessel.

I just re-watched episode 1 and here's the things I think are important. Feel free to add to this. I might try and do this for every episode. This most recent episode has really got me into this show even more. I'm also a little bored. :lol2:

"The Long Bright Dark":

 

*In 1995 Hart and Cohle investigate a murder of Dora Lange where she is found with Antlers on her knees, etc...with the stick figures near her body.

*Lange's ex (currently in prison) says she told him she met a "King"

*Through their investigation they find out about Marie Fontenot, a girl who disappeared five years earlier. This case was apparently not investigated because the police believed she was taken by her dad, where she was better off anyways.

*Cohle finds a stick figure similar to the one found at the murder scene at the Fontenot's. I checked on Wikipedia and it says that they were at Fontenos uncle's house and they found it in a dilapidated playhouse.

*Another report of a girl being chased through the woods by a "green eared spaghetti monster"

 

Looks kinda similar to the lawn mower a few episodes later right?

 

*Reverend Tuttle, brother of Governor Eddie Tuttle, is apparently trying to form an Anti-Christian Crimes task force.

 

In 2012 Detectives are interviewing Hart and Cohle several days apart regarding their investigation.

 

I noticed at one point the younger Detective starts to ask Cohle about him being off the grid for about 8 years. And I believe he starts to say something about how right when he comes back...at this point the other Detective cuts him off...that's when Cohle says something like, "How could the killer be back if we already caught him? Start asking the right ***** questions"

The lawn mower man is a Childress, if he is in fact the man with the scars. The house keeper said something about a Childress boy with scars and I believe Sam Tuttle was his dad. I could be wrong though.

While tonight made it a little bit clearer I have no idea how they are going to wrap all this up in one episode.

I had thought Sam Tuttle was either the Gov. or the Rev. Tuttle's dad, and that the lawn mower man was Sam Tuttle's grandson?? Didn't the house keeper also say something along the lines of "his daddy did that to him"?
