I personally thought Zach Harris was one of the Top 3 RB's in the State. A 3 yr Starter with 2 State Championship rings and a Runner Up....I guess that will have to suffice.

That is very confusing. I am lost. Surely you are not speaking of Sindelar and Barker. I think if you are, you have gotten some really bad info.

 

I've been thinking this for two days now, and nobody else has said it so I will. Junior QB is about to announce his college choice. Hometown paper of one of his finalist names him first team all state in what can only be described as a surprise move. (Over the QB who is committed to the rival of the hometown team)

 

This is by no means a knock on the kid because he is very good, but you have to admit it was not expected. I would be less surprised to have seen four other names in that spot as I could make a better argument for each of them. Pick a preference on how you would rate them, this year stats, lifetime stats, wins, championships. Pick any one and I will give you a more logical choice.

tcjkbt ~ It may also indicate what I have said for a long time when columnists in state & out say Kentucky is not a football state: we are loaded with talent & the first-rate players can be found throughout the state, not just the metro areas. I think what we may lack enough of is innovative or at least flexible coaches. One example is one of my favorite publics whose former coach played his stars both ways full-game when he had lots of talent; he also used some goofy defenses, like 9 on the line (if you get a seam & have some zoom, you are gone). His successor takes advantage of that rich talent & flusters opponents with shifting D formations, & he is an aggressive risk-taker, run- & pass-blitzing with fast linebackers. The success has come along with the creativity.

1. Why does the C-J even bother to publish the team given such a low participation rate year in and year out by the coaches - other than checking a box and keeping their streak alive?

 

2. Why not call it the C-J Coaches Football Team? Maybe the coaches will take it more serious if they own the name/team.

Honestly in 2012 when Dawkins (Trinity) was left off the 1st team I was done with the C-J team, and take for what it is. The AP and Lexington Herald-Leader both appear to put more effort into their teams.

To your point # 1. I could not agree more. Don't get at minimum 80% participation, don't publish. I'm sure there are coaches who have written this off and will never vote again. Big ego group.

My point was not to take anything away from the young man. As I said in a subsequent post how can one NOT vote for him? My point is that the top vote-getter got 18% of the total possible votes. It's not a commentary on the kid.

Some players...yes. But not all. Some players blossom after high school and some wilt. Those players who are allowed to skate through high school football practices and games without the proper training and discipline may not make it mentally in college football no matter how big they grow. Seen it happen many times over.

 

I agree that there are many deserving players that don't have D1offers that should be recognized with the honor as there are many undeserving and under-performing players with D1 offers who just had good PR men as coaches. My question was simply regarding this year' team.
