This is awesome. I attended the Adidas tourney's in Cincy and Indy. Loved it. I have family that lives in Taylorsville. Looks like I will be staying with them at that time....:thumb:

So where exactly are they being held? Louisville is kind of a big city.

Fair expo center. Everything under 1 roof. It'll be like the Eddie Ford.

Huge! At least from the perspective of someone in the hospitality industry. . Advice for spectators: Stay in the Hurstbourne area. KFEC hotels will be booked with teams, etc.

 

I don't know the dates...but downtown stays pretty busy these days, with good (for hotels) ADR's. Hurstbourne is a good area, a great variety of hotels, lower rates than downtown, lots of restaurants and shopping, easy access to interstate routes....just a bit of advice. It's only 15-20 minutes from KFEC and downtown (barring any of the normal traffic jams).

the Milkhouse and the entire sports complex at Disney opened in 1997. AAU national events of varying age groups have been held their since. I think the 17 and under championships have been in Orlando since that year. I know the 15's and 16's have been at varying sites since that time, but the 16's had settled into Orlando as a more permanent home about 2008ish.

 

2008ish is also the year the Disney complex completed a second basketball venue, the Jostens Center. It added six courts to the five or six (depending on the layout) already at the Milkhouse.

 

As already mentioned, the facilities at Disney are first rate for both the athletes and the spectators. Not sure how the Expo Center can possibly match that, but maybe I'm wrong.

 

Happy for Louisville, but I'm sure there is a lot more to this news than meets the eye. AAU National Headuarters are less than a mile from Disney property and I believe AAU and Disney are or were corporate partners.

What KY AAU teams have played in the Nationals in past years? Have teams like the Ky Travelers, Louisville Magic, Hoop Dreams, Team Manimal and other high profile AAU organizations played in the Nationals or do they stick to shoe sponsored tournaments like the Adidas Invitational, etc? Will the fact that Nationals are in Louisville spur them to play in the Nationals now.

The host state gets some exemptions, or at least used to.

The Louisville Sports Commission was set up specifically to go after this sort of thing and they have their hands outstretched in a lot of different directions. Don't know what may have happened, but Louisville wouldn't have made the pitch in the first place if they didn't think they had a shot.

I was thinking they were a definite no. Do they have rules in place that says their players can only play with the Travelers? Is there a possiblity if they have a weekend off and it falls on Nationals weekend that they play for a different team that weekend? Kind of like how Kelan Martin played for Indy Elite and Louisville Magic?

The Travelers played in the KY state AAU tournament last year if I am not mistaken.
