You have to understand how Cris commentates. He has a different style and that was right down his wheelhouse. Essentially, it is not what he says that is important, it is what he means.

 

Cris got Al back if I remember, he told everyone Al was a Cardinals fan and I don't think Al liked it too much.

 

Do this for me if it interests you, when Cris "commentates" ask yourself "what point is Cris trying to get across?" If you do that, you may find he is really good (and a little sneaky) at what he does.

Not at all. The SNF crew is immeasurably better than any of the others, especially Buck and Aikman.

 

I'll take Al and Cris over anybody on Fox. And with the possible exception of Gumble and Dierdorf, I'll take them over anybody on CBS too.

To answer the above question about pass interference, regardless of whether the ball was tipped or not, I am 95% certain that there can't be pass interference on a receiver behind the line of scrimmage. So tipped ball or not, Troy can hit the guy behind the line of scrimmage and it isn't a penalty.

I agree. Cris is about my favorite announcer.

I keep telling you guys, the best way to watch a game is with the sound down to where you can hear the crowd, but cannot make out what the announcers are saying. I watch movies during halftime, too. I do not need to be told what I just saw, especially when they replay it for me over and over. Don't miss it when I'm at the game, so I don't need it at home. I have no problem with any announcing crew, because I simply can't hear them.

Anyone else think it's time for Collinsworth to go? He's borderline unwatchable...

Edit. I used to hate him. I don't dislike him as much as I used to. I'm not a fan of Al at all.

All the Fox crews are unwatchable IMO.

I like Simms most of the time but mainly because he's a former Giant.

Dierdorf is the absolute worse that ever talked into a microphone.

To the bolded, he said, "If you take away the big plays, the Steelers defense has been very good." Al responded with something along the lines of..."well, those plays did happen and they count." That's like saying, if Peyton Manning didn't throw so many TDs, the Broncos offense wouldn't be very good.

 

His point was spot on. Some Ds can't stop anyone in any fashion. His point is that you had better be able to take advantage of big plays or you're in trouble .

Collinsworth and Simms are easily the two best color guys in both style and substance.

 

Best analytical guy is Dilfer.
