That's the biggest reason that they might get to stay in 4A, travel for them in 3A would be crazy.

If it does happen, I think Lewis County, Henry County and Fleming County would be the closest teams. The state athletic governing board should permit successful football programs to play up in class. (I believe State Sen. Katie Stine of Ft. Thomas introduced legislation permitting such several years back, but I don't think her bill got passed in Frankfort.)

This! Names always surface for the open spots. All the stars that have carried HHS teams of the past started somewhere! They weren't born stars. They earned it over time and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

My son was a freshman when the SC streak started so he went the first 4 years. When he was home at Thanksgiving we were talking about the streak and he couldn't imagine the pressure the players were putting on themselves and felt bad for them. So yes, the pressure will be off to continue the streak but it never comes off the expectations for winning state.

Does there have to be for the team to be successful. I have been hearing how bad the soph class is and the frosh class, but not real sure what the difference is between them and the junior class. Honestly at the end of the day it really does not matter because there will be more than enough good football players for the new coach to choose from and compete for a state title each and every year. May not be as deep as years past, but there are plenty of really good football players still in the program.

There were definitely some kids that I thought should of played more. That being said I do think the talent level will be down a little from the past few years. Hopefully the coaching staff will reevaluate the total two platoon system and get the best players on the field. I know the boys will work hard in the weight room and the coaches will develop whoever the next in line is. Highlands will still be Highlands but it might be a little harder to get to the center of the tootsie roll pop... GO BIRDS!!:thumb:

1. A couple of top-notch superstar like players (Towles, Collinsworth, Grover, Smith, JLo, Frisk, and so on and so forth)

2. Another 30 or so VERY solid High School players who have been excellently developed in the JFTL and as underclassmen.

 

BUT, when you take away #1, that is when Highlands becomes susceptible to losing to the rest of the mere mortals that play in KY. I think the lack of a players who clearly fit the criteria for #1 is what has people questioning their talent level. Again, even minus the #1'ish kind of guys, Highlands is going to win, and win a lot.

Feggins is realistically the only D-1 prospect on that roster. I understand he is getting a ton of mail from D-1 schools.

I agree. Houliston became a star his senior year. He didn't even play in any tight games last year (that I can remember). All of a sudden he's mentioned with the state's best and threw 40 td's to 10 different receivers. Did we have a feeling he could do that? Yes, but he still had to without much experience. That happens a lot at HHS. Kids come from nowhere to be superstars. They get a little bigger, faste and stronger and their confidence grows. And the superstars from each class (regardless how many there are), come together to form a good football TEAM. Heck, Harris got significant carries as a sophomore if I'm remembering correctly. No one (except HHS fans) knew who he was. He made it and became (in my eyes) a superstar. History tells us there will be more Harris' and Houliston's next year! Someone will step up. When you grow up on Ft Thomas, you can't wait to get your turn. And when you do, you do whatever possible to make sure you don't lose your turn. This is why they do so well. The competitiveness starts the day you can say Bluebirds.
