December 4, 201312 yr They're tongs for handling the hot charcoal on the top of a hookah. Pardon my ignorance, but what is the attraction of smoking a hookah pipe? I've noticed over the last 5-10 years an increase in hookah bars mostly around college towns. I personally have never done it and have only stepped into these establishments for a few seconds to take a quick peek (Probably looking like a real nerd in doing so). Detected a fairly pleasant aroma, and witnessed the patrons to be mostly college aged peaceful earthy hippie kids in a social setting. At the risk of pre-judging or sounding square, I came away thinking that this ever popular ritual perhaps gives people a sense that they are doing something cool and exotic, and having once been that age, I can sorta "get that". Someone please enlighten me if there's more to it than that. :idunno:
