...and already there's stories about hackers making "zombie" drones where the hacker uses their own technology to effectively capture a drone, disconnect the owner, and tap themselves in so that they now control it.

I do wish Amazon would hurry up and expand that grocery delivery service they are testing! I miss the good ole days when Drive-in Market in Newport would deliver groceries like that!

There are limitations to any drone type delivery, not the least of which is the Amazon FC within 10 miles of your home must stock and deliver the type of product you want to order. Amazon's CVG1 building is all clothes and accessories. So if you want something other than that, you're not getting delivery within 30 minutes of your order. Their Bldg 2 is mostly customer returns but also ships out some large weird items like kayaks. That's it for the CVG hub re: customer orders.

 

Another issue internally for Amazon is that right now (depending on which FC you're talking about) it can take an hour or two from the time an order occurs to pick, pack, and ship it. So they'll have to have a pre-packaging system of some sort to get the items picked and out the door in 10-20 min to take into account flight time to your house.

 

And all of this ignores any FAA or Homeland Security issues of course.

This is why I don't see this being successful. I work in the same business, and guaranteeing that an order is received, processed, picked, packed, shipped and delivered in 30 minutes is highly unlikely, IMO.
