May 21, 201511 yr I've said it before and will again, as long as they are limiting the number of resident hunters there should be no non-resident permits issued. This is purely a tourism issue. The problem in Kentucky is that the zones will always be restricted, so the overall total tag number will always be limited. Unlike Colorado that always has tags available, Kentucky will continue to do a percentage of out of state to keep bringing people in. Pretty good marketing ploy, but agree it's not overly fair to residents.
May 22, 201511 yr ...oh and for the record CWB, if you would like to borrow one, I'd be honored if you're in the mood to take her with a blackpowder weapon. I have an Encore, .50 cal that will put SSTs dead nuts center at 200yds, EVERY.Single.Time! Most accurate weapon I own, bar none.
November 3, 201510 yr Just got off the phone with my guide. A couple thoughts I'm left with: 1) I absolutely cannot believe how excited I am about this. 2) I need to come up with 4 coolers capable of holding a 150 lb elk quarter in each. THAT was something I had not considered. (Although two phonecalls later, and I've already borrowed two off of a couple buddies of mine.)

November 3, 201510 yr I have one you're welcome to. There's a distinct possibility I'll be taking you up on that.

I have a large one you can use if I can get it back from a buddy that borrowed it for the bow hunt.

November 5, 201510 yr I've got a 45.70 if you need some knock down power you can borrow. Or a few .50 cal black powder you are welcome to borrow. ...oh and for the record CWB, if you would like to borrow one, I'd be honored if you're in the mood to take her with a blackpowder weapon. I have an Encore, .50 cal that will put SSTs dead nuts center at 200yds, EVERY.Single.Time! Most accurate weapon I own, bar none. I've have a Remington 700 chambered at .308 that I've been mulling over for the hunt, but I also have a good friend with a very nice .300 WinMag rifle at my disposal. I've been figuring on using one of those two, and today I had a friend tell me his father-in-law (who has been elk hunting out west) has a .375 H&H that he wants me to shoot a bit before I go. Anyone ever shot that? It was apparently developed in the early 1900s by the British for big game/safari type hunting. For what it's worth, I have been leaning towards using the .300 WinMag because of it's superior muzzle energy over the .308. Reading a little about the .375, it looks like it has a significant advantage over the .300 in terms of muzzle energy.

November 5, 201510 yr It's all about shot placement. My guide friend took a lady last year who took a bull with a 7mm08. Dropped it in it's tracks.
