Suspended Coach: What Are The Rules?

Featured Replies

Coach Chapman's ejection in the Pike Central game, and subsequent suspension from the upcoming game with Belfry, raised some questions that I don't think we have ever discussed on BGP. I know this is the place to ask, somebody will know.

What restrictions does the KHSAA impose on a coach who is suspended?

Does he just have to be vacant from the sidelines during any game(s) or does he have to be completely out of the stadium?

Can he communicate via headset or cell phone with coaches during any game(s)?

Can he be in the locker room during any game(s)

Are there any restrictions during the week, can he participate in planning and practice?

Bylaw 15 & Bylaw 27.

Case BL-15-6(7): seems to say no attendance or communication.

Bylaw 27 seems to address more serious penalties.

looked through the handbook Joker linked us to, and bottom line is, you don't want to be ejected.

Not sure what prompted the ejection, but as i knew and was reaffirmed after reading the KHSAA website, ejection's are taken seriously.

I didn't read the bylaws, but to me the bigger question is why in the world would he get tossed in the postseason? I can only assume he received two unsportsmanlike fouls and was subsequently run. If that's the case, why would you keep going after the first one? Also, what kind of assistant coaches are on staff there to allow him to keep going after the first? What an unfortunate situation for the program. Again, I don't know why he was ejected, but because it was in round 2 he's finished for the year and possibly one or two games next year (if they lose Friday).

So Chapman will be able to game plan and practice this week, he just can't be present or available during the game. Am I reading that correctly?

Didn't read the bylaws but as far as I know the suspension only prevents the coach from being present at the game. He can't be in communication. Can't be in the lockerroom.

He can be at practice.

He can do everything but attend the game and communicate with the team.

I am not sure why he was ejected. But for me any coach ejected in the post season should resign. Because he just put his team in a bad position.

If not mistaken if his team wins this week he is also out next week.

Does anyone know why he got ejected?

Moot point, they aren't beating Belfry this week.

Wasn't there a big dust-up between he and Breathitt County last year?

Pike Central played Breathitt Co. in the game he was ejected from. Maybe that had some bearing on it.

Supposedly there was a tipped pass that PC intercepted and returned for a Pick 6. After the deflection an interception a PC player teed off on the Breathitt QB and they threw a flag for roughing the passer... thus negating the Pick 6 and continuing the drive for Breathitt. From what I gather the call was incorrect and blown..as it should have been PC's balland a flag during the return for unnecessary roughness... but to escalate your anger to the point you are ejected knowing the ramifications (not to mention it was a close game in the 1st Half) was foolish at best.

Chapman has had some issues with emotion for a looooong time. PC almost upset Belfry in 2009 but in a close game Chapman had a similar tirade that cost his team nearly 45 yards in penalties as Belfry came from behind to get the win. He also earned scorn when he refused to shake hands with Haywood the night he became KY's All-Time Wins leader.

Jokers... as for last year there was a large dust up in the game. A fight to be exact which cost Breathitt a player in the Belfry game and would have cost Pike Central two players had they won. In addition, there was controversy last year as PC... who ever since Chapman has came to Buckley's Creek has ran solely out of the spread...suddenly played a heavily favored Breathitt and ran Belfry's flexbone exclusively throughout the game

How in the world do you go from a spread to flexbone in a week? Sorry but that's just stupid

When you used to coach at the school and under the coach you are running it against, and most aren't giving you a chance to win, but are assuming you are doing it to help your friends prepare for the next week, it raises some eyebrows.

That was the part that got everyone fired up.
