When you used to coach at the school and under the coach you are running it against and most aren't giving you a chance to win, and are assuming you are doing it to help your friends prepare for the next week, it raises some eyebrows.

That was the part that got everyone fired up.

 

IF that's what happened, then with good reason. If I'm a parent of a kid on his team, I let him know that he can "scrimmage" on his own time and my kid won't be a part of it and he can expect zero contributions on things like booster clubs, etc. from me as a parent.

 

Even further, I'd probably be having a chat with the school's AD asking for an explanation as to why my child was basically used as a tackling dummy to get the school we were supposed to be competing against ready for their next game.

The Belfry fanbase would support whoever their Head Coach is until the season concluded because by and large I think most people would understand that it comes down to the kids and their season more than anything. No reason making a bad situation worse by calling for the head of a coach and being a distraction when there is still football left to be played.

 

With that said, and on that same thought, I am not sure Belfry would have a coach left after the KHSAA recruiting sanctions and subsequent investigation... we most definitely would not have a coach left after making a donkey out of himself in game with a legendary coach that had the eye of the entire state, so there is little to no doubt that if that same coach jeopardized the goals of the players by selfish actions and a general lack of self control that he would have a job left following the season ending in the Quarterfinals.

 

Now the hypothetical question that is really tough to contemplate is:

 

What do you do if Pike Central rallies to not only defeat Belfry without Chapman... but also win in the Semi-Finals? Does the winning direction of the program, specifically with such a young team, supersede the actions of your Head Coach?

I assume you are talking about the switcheroo he pulled last year in the playoffs vs. Breathitt the week before the regional championship. I don't know the reasoning behind it, maybe he did it for strategic purposes and thought it gave PCC the best chance in an otherwise presumably unwinnable game against the Bobcats.

 

I can only say this in answer to your question. If a Belfry coach intentionally did anything less than 100% effort to win a game, it would not be received well. The natives would be restless. If, in doing so, it also became known he was trying to help the opponent better prepare for their next contest at the expense of Belfry's season, it would be a very ugly situation and I suspect it would be said coach's last game on the Belfry sideline.

In all honesty, I would venture a guess that there would be a group of fans/parents on the sideline waiting for the coach to walk off the field. It would not bode well.

 

Heck, fans don't like it much when the coaches put in "new plays" for the playoffs. You hear the "dance the one that brought you" comments.

 

But, I say without much reservation, that if a coach acts inappropriately and gets ejected for being a turd he would probably not be the coach any longer. Giving the program a black eye would not be tolerated.

So you turn your team into a scout team on Friday night? Wow! That's wrong for so many reasons. Also flexbone isn't something you learn to run in a week worth a crap. How good of a look could you even give a team?
