If I was on the Dolphins I would have repeatedly told Martin to be a man and stand his ground and I would have his back as well. I'd try to build him up and I would also tell Richie to back off some as well.

You are 100% correct Richie took it much further than anyone should. But it still doesn't change the fact that Martin went outside the trust of his teammates to handle this situation.

 

There is a difference between approval and understanding the reality.

I think a lot of us have demonstrated our belief that Martin couldn't have stopped Incognito through confrontation, and clearly he couldn't trust the front office if it was common knowledge that they were the ones that sicced Incognito in the first place. Given that, what was Martin supposed to do to keep it in house?

Yep then maybe we can end this epidemic destroying our nation of wealthy athletes picking on each other.

Will this incident eventually lead to a kinder, gentler NFL? If so, will we like that? Will we pay to watch that? Big hits still get the cheers and murmurs from the crowd. Violence is a basic aspect of the game. Can these guys dial it back in the locker room and still give us a game we'll pay to see?

Nothing was Martin's fault until he decided the betray the trust of his team.

 

The team treated him like absolute garbage. Why should he give a damn about any of them? It wouldn't surprise me at all if he hadn't been planning this for a while. Treat me like crap, I'm gonna hurt you in a way that's going to crumble the organization.

 

And let's make no mistake about it. Ireland is in hot water, Philbin is in hot water. Incognito will never play for them again, Martin isn't coming back....How many other players were aware of this, or participated in this?

I am not defending either side here, but I genuinely feel the Dolphin's culture is similar to that of other teams. It is not going to be easy wherever Martin goes and do not think the NFL is for him. This happens in all walks of life. You can do a job but your environment and cohorts make it unbearable for you to work at a place. I am not seeing unicorns and bouncy ball sets with other teams either.

Lots of smart guys in the front offices of the NFL. The game may not look the same, but it should still be watchable. Hockey isn't REMOTELY as violent as it used to be and it's doing as well as it's ever done on a national level. Fighting is being taken out of the game and the big hits that used to be such a part of it are on the decline as the rules change. But a more open game with back-and-forth flow will end up being even more watchable than its more brutal forebear.

First off, what you would've done is what the Dolphins players should've done. They didn't and that's exactly why Martin knew a confrontation would only make it worse. The other players had Incognito's back, not his.

 

I think he acted completely appropriately for the situation. In most cases, I'd tell him to go to his superior, just like you or I would do if an issue came up at work with a co-worker, however, it was clear that Philbin had Incognito's back here, so I probably would've told him he had two choices. He could fight him, and get his butt kicked, or he could come up with a way to screw em all over.

Do I believe there's bullying in other locker rooms? Absolutely. Do I believe other locker rooms have a concocted plan from the GM, to the coach, to the meathead to treat another player the way the Dolphins did? Not a chance in hell.

 

That's the problem here. Incognito was made a captain by Philbin. In other locker rooms, if a captain or a veteran sees a guy getting emotionally or mentally beaten down by a teammate, they'll put an end to it. That couldn't happen in the Dolphins locker room because the ring-leaders of the whole situation were the head coach and one of the captains, who is supposed to be a "leader".

Is this a serious question? Is murder acceptable?

 

Bullying is in the NFL locker room. Where do you draw the line?
