Actually I was old enough and I loved watching him play. I use to imitate his little touchdown trot he use to do when running touchdowns back lol. He was amazing there is no arguing that. However he also never played against receivers like they are built today, especially Johnson. The passing game as a whole has really evolved even more from back then. As I mentioned the development of QB's now intentionally throwing that back shoulder throw has also grown. Deion would close fast on the slants, and short screens. However Johnson is so big, and great at getting position, it would be hard for him to make a play. Then on short screens Johnson could possibly take them to the house because of Deions poor tackling. Throw in how fast Johnson is too, and how he can go up and get the ball. Then even if Deion has perfect coverage, Johnson's ability to adjust and catch the back shoulder is great too.

 

Deion would no doubt do better than probably any corner in the league. However he would need safety help over the top to truly slow down Johnson IMO.

 

I don't think Deion would just close quickly, he'd probably jump a route or two if you kept throwing quick slants at him, and when he jumped one, it'd be a pick 6. I think throwing tons of short passes at him would be asking for a few routes to just get jumped all over.

Which would then be baiting him to set up the double move. As I said before Deion is probably the best corner ever. However he also never played against the type of receivers or today like Johnson. Back then if a receiver was big like Johnson, they usually didn't have the speed to go with it. Or they were not great route runners. Or they had smaller speed receivers who might not play the ball that well in the air. Deion never seen anything like Johnson. Deion is fast, but if he bites on the double move Johnson is also really fast and would get the seperation needed.

This is one of those arguments that never has a resolution. This board thrives on them. For the record, I've never seen a WR that I thought Prime couldn't shut down. Never.

First thing I want to know is who is throwing the ball to megatron? That is a HUGE factor right there. Deion could take WR out of games at time due to the qb more than the WR. He was a huge bait and jump the route guy. Now he could run with anyone and stay close and some qb just wouldn't risk it.

 

I would like to see some stats of Deion against Irvin, Moss and a few others. I would also be interested to see which QBs had the most success against him.

All he needs to do is stay close and get a hand on the ball, Deion could do that with the current rules. Big WR's could kind box him out and had some success against him. I'd love to have seen this matchup. Would also like to have seen Bo Jackson in his prime running down hill at Ray Lewis also!
