Best tailgating venue

Featured Replies

Mayfield's is the best I have seen but Frankfort is not far behind. Tha advantage Mayfield has is more tailgating room and being around the end zone. They do get a good turnout too.

What about N. Ky. tailgating? I don't see much of it up here.

Highlands has their lot across from the school, but that is a private event, I believe. CovCath should be awesome since they have a HUGE lot next to the field, but I didn't see anything. Other than that, there really aren't any stadiums that I've been to where you have much. Ryle should be better.

What a suck up, lol.

My best pregame experience by far. At the high school level, that is. Not much beats tailgating before a Bengals game if you are with the right people. :D

Mayfield is the best I have ever seen anywhere other than UK. Vechicles park in the west endzone and to the 15 yardline on the visitors side. If a truck they are usually backed in and load with seating. Some bring their pop up canopies, a few show up in RV's though they are not allowed to park on the front row. There is a large grill on site that is avaialble and the fans down there have a free meal all that is ask is that you bring a side dish. Occasionally there is a fee if the meal is a expensive one like a pig roast we have. Typical meals would be burgers or chicken, fish, it varies. There is ample area for kids who play within viewing distance of their parents. The best feature us that you are right on the field just behind a fence and there is no track which puts you really near the action. There are restooms and concessions adjacent in case you don't like the menu.

What makes it the best is the sheer number of Mayfield fans that participate, it is a long standing tradition for a very large number of fans

Heck I was invited to go to the tailgate section once they knew where I was from and who I was and the Mayfield people wounldn't even let me pay for my food and it indeed was great!:dancingpa

Sadly Mios is gone. Rumors are another pizza place is going in. Maybe in time for next year...

I hate to hear that. I must have met a good 7-10 BGPers at Mio's before the game. Discovered Land Shark Lager also. :thumb:

A devoted group of Holy Cross fans tailgate both home and away even if they are 1-8. Small, but faithful.

However, continuing off the comments about Elder tailgating (no doubt from Highlands fans who witnessed that firsthand), GCL schools in Cincinnati do it big. Moeller takes over an entire practice field next to Lockland Stadium and calls it "Moetown". It is absolutely packed with people cooking everthing you can imagine. They have the tents, the themed trucks and buses in blue & gold, mascots, cheerleaders, etc. It looks like Lot D outside Paul Brown Stadium before a Bengals game.

I believe the last principal at Cov Cath there ended the tradition?

This is one of the few things CovCath does that I really disagree with.

CovCath fans do have a place to tailgate before home games.

The GCL school do it right.

Tailgating has become a big part of the game day.

NewCath parents do a nice job. Lots of drinks food for everyone grills music cornhole for home and away games.

That's a good idea.

For some of the "bowl" games at some of the mountain schools, I've seen the same thing done with chili or a fish fry.

Having gone to many state tournaments and stayed at the Radisson, something I observed was that Mason County never seemed to be a school you'd want to bet on losing a party.

Ain't no party like a Royal party...

The 4th floor at the Radisson always seemed to be rockin'.

Frankfort has some nice tailgating. They have a group of guys every week that tailgate next to the fence that surrounds the game field.

Definitely Frankfort is my Favorite. Where else can you drive through the ticket gate and park inside the stadium. Great Tailgate, but that is partially because they seem to go on the "Don't ask, don't tell" Good Lord, the Beechwood crew had huge spread, music and a Fire Barrel.

Aside from the tailgate, it really makes it nice when the kids can run back to the car and warmup during the game or half-time.
