Some health insurance gets pricier as Obamacare rolls out - latimes.com

Pam Kehaly, president of Anthem Blue Cross in California, said she received a recent letter from a young woman complaining about a 50% rate hike related to the healthcare law.

"She said, 'I was all for Obamacare until I found out I was paying for it,'" Kehaly said.

Wait until all those that supported Obamacare just because of it's name and the party supporting it see how much more their insurance is going to cost.

The President in a press Conf last week was touting a couple that was there with him was able to find health insurance for almost $800 per month...not sure how many people can afford that. I'm currently paying COBRA and it half that...and COBRA is as a norm very high.

I'd like to hear what hammertime has to say on the issue.

It's pretty simple math, rates will have to rise.

I wish we could have a poll that actually showed the number of people who genuinely thought they'd get free or reduced healthcare.

I know mine will rise beginning in 2015. They told us that in 2010 during our contract negotiations after they increased our healthcare in 2010.

Mine will go up the 1st of the year, it does every year.

I figured rising healthcare was normal with or without Obamacare. Am I wrong?

It was.

I was wrong in a previous thread, my coverage DOUBLED. Hasn't done that since I've been working.

The point of this thread is that people thought they were getting something for free, that the government was going to take from the rich and give to the poor.

Okay. I always get confused when I hear people saying their healthcare rose. Mine has risen and was going to rise regardless and they told us in 2010 to be prepared for a significant rise in 2015. This all seems normal to me but maybe it is just where I work at.

It has to rise so we can all pay for the lazy people who wait on handouts. And they are the ones who vote for Obamacare, so go figure, and wait until all of these illegal immingrants get granted amnesty and we pay for their health care too. Plus that is millions of votes for free healthcare so they dont have to work and get child credit.

Jan 1, 2010 we went on the insurance we currently have. To date my premium has gone up 35%. We've already been told it will go up again at the first of the year. We have received increases twice a year since starting on this insurance. The up side is it is really good insurance. We have zero deductible and zero out of pocket as long as we stay in the network. It does not cover any charges out of the network. The only money we are out, aside from the premium, are copays.

Remember that many (most?) plans coming from large companies are self funded - meaning the company is large enough to form its own pool and it more cost effective for them to bear the total cost risk. These plans are usually ADMINISTERED by brand name insurance companies.

So all the rule charges are impacting the large companies cost structures of providing insurance for their employees. It is important to keep this in mind when remembering that the corporation mandate was delayed one year. Its all but obvious that there was serious sticker shock and there was pressure applied to defer the mandate.

I'd like to hear what hammertime has to say on the issue.

When I get more than 5 minutes of break in my now 9 hour day I will give you guys an update. It's not good. I simply don't have time to explain all the bad right now. :lol2:

My companies insurance is self funded, administered by Horizon BCBS.

How are the changes impacting the cost structure in a self funded program? I keep hearing this but have yet to see anyone explain it.
