Siiple is not the problem. He has proven himself at Highlands and Georgetown as a player and proven himself as a coach at Indian Hills. I believe he was at Bracken County for a short time and their program took an upswing under his leadership. Grant County does not have any local, home grown guys to coach football. It is a relatively new sport to Grant County. As a result, you likely have inferior junior league coaches, an inferior middle school program, your parents did not play, so they can not help at home or in the program. Coach Siple is probably better than you deserve. I would embrace him and let him build a program.

In small class ball if you have an athlete or two it makes a big difference. With that said he did a very good job at Bracken. He has done a good job where ever he has been and it is a matter of things getting in line

 

Football is some what new to Grant. The HS program has been set back over the course of its history for a number of reasons. They don't have much in the home grown department but that is changing. They also have a number of people that have moved into the area over the years that have football backgrounds.

 

The rest of the post shows a lack of knowledge of the area and its programs over the years.

If coach Siple is serious about building a program then the first thing he needs to do is move to Grant County and be part of the community.

 

That might work for those schools but I think Grant County needs a young coach that...will be part of the community...

 

The fact is that Siple is not what we need and the administration just don't care.

 

I am just saying that he is not the right fit. We need someone that is a big part of our community...

 

I think that he could be successful in certain coaching positions but not here. Grant needs 2 things. A supportive administration and a coach that is willing to be part of the community and build it from the ground up.

So, what you're saying is that you all need to get you a local boy who is part of, and controlled by, the local small town power brokers -- aka "the community." Well, Kevin Siple never has been...and never will be...that guy.

First of all, I applaud that you stick up for the community and what you think is best for the kids at GC. However, in all honesty - what has GC football ever done that would command a "proven winner" to leave his current position, move to Dry Ridge, then knock on doors and say, "Here I am, follow me to Bowling Green!"? I'm sorry to be negative, but that's just not going to happen. I only know Coach Siple on paper, but what I do know is that he built a great program at Indian Hill, he won at Bracken County and is now at Grant County - who's competing in a district against foes they just aren't capable of beating. No different than Brossart being in 2A and having to get their brains beat in by NCC, Newport, Lloyd & Holy Cross. Kevin may not be the "right fit", but he's your head coach. With that said, I know the community is a proud bunch, but maybe it's time for the people to rise up and get their son out of the cookie aisle at Walmart and get them to go out for football and be part of the solution and not the problem.

Jaws, maybe you should volunteer your time since you are in the community and help Coach out. Maybe you being in the community you can help get done whatever it is you think needs to get done.

 

Coach I believe won a couple championships when he was at Indian Hill, he's been succesful at every place he's gone. Not really sure who you would rather have coach but if you have all the answers but refuse to help, that is a sign of the community which Coach has to deal with. If you are willing to help, then I suggest do it instead of complain about it.

Coach Siple is a hard worker and is doing the best with what he has. Grant is young but have some good underclassmen and will be fine in a few years. Give Coach Siple a break!!!

No dog in the fight. However Jaws, you're doing it wrong. Therefore, I can't take you seriously.

 

Coach Siple getting on here and dropping some knowledge is awesome. He isn't hiding from anyone.

 

Guy can flat coach. If it isn't working in your community that says a whole hell of a lot more about your community than him.

Coach is in his second year now and it is way to early to start calling him out on the results. I did notice numbers seems to be up on the Grant County sideline.

In your earlier post you made assumptions about the lower levels which are incorrect. Also any coach would be a little skeptical if dad or whoever helping jr out at home due to it causing conflict in coaching (dad tells the kid to squeeze and coach teaches a spill technique).

I don't know the coach but looking from the stands my first impression was that coaching has some issues. In one aspect of the game I do not think he looked at Coopers game film at all. Cooper always kicks the ball to their right. On every kickoff there were 4 or 5 Cooper kids running down the sideline unblocked. Not once did he adjust the coverage. I know Grant scored a kickoff return but that was against the JV. On offense they were just not balanced enough and did not adjust the game plan early enough. If the comment is true that there are parent coach on the staff that is a big issue. Are these parents coaching the position their son plays? I have coached myself in the past with my kids on the team. I always made sure I coached a position my son was not playing. One time I ended up coaching his position because the head coach changed position. I actually ended up starting another kid so there was no perceived favoritism going on. Sometimes as a head coach you may have to use parent coaches but you need to be very careful as questions of favoritism will be rampant.

I can only comment on what I know.........Kevin Siple is a damn good football coach.

I also wanted to comment on the part of Cooper starting the Varsity to begin the second half. I see a lot of coaches doing that. I don't really agree with doing it. Grant did a great job driving the ball. When Cooper took over deep in their territory I could see using the Varsity to drive the ball some. I know there were some people complaining about the passing atleast he was throwing to receivers who had never played Varsity. I was surprised he did not remove them quicker in the drive. It is very risky playing your starters when the game is over. There is too much risk that a player loses his mind and quits playing the game and his only goal is to take it out on the other teams star players. Both coaches need to keep an eye on players when the game is out of control. If they see a player being targeted or a player targeting other players they need to get them off the field. Unfortunately the officials when a running clock starts are more concerned about getting the game over quick. Rarely is a penalty called. I like the running clock a suggestion I would have though is to have the officials bring the captains and coaches together at mid field and explain the game is essentially over to keep it clean and also for the coaches to come to an understanding of how much longer each side will play their starters.

I believe there is a parent on staff. Honestly it isn't an issue. If he is on staff he is not his son's position coach. In fact I'm not sure he is in charge of any position. As far as scheme and such goes that is not always clear from the stands. One can tell and teach a player what to do but you can't make them do it. I have no clue if that is or is not the case but if you coach a sport you know it's a factor at times.

Sorry Jaws but you are indeed driving the bus my friend! A big ole Wow to you. No back bone to get on BGP and do what you wrote above. Here lies the problem at GC. Way to obvious what is going on now.

As a Cooper fan, the 2012 Scott Eagles just impressed the heck out of me. I predicted their success and wish them nothing but the best (unless and until we meet again, of course!!) I can't say the same about the 2013 Grant Co. Braves, BUT I did seem marked improvement over the past two seasons. They seemed to have a better understanding of the game, had better team speed, and they had several very athletic players out there. I was anxious to see their JV squad on Saturday morning and had high expectations, given their record being nearly identical to the younger Jags. If I'm not mistaken, we didn't see a JV squad in 2012 for me to compare to for progress but I got the impression there were kids on the JV squad who were either out of position or completely overlooked (one WR went unguarded nearly the whole game and only got one pass thrown his way if I remember correctly). The QB was solid, skilled enough ~ should be quite competent if he gains a little weight and height. They have a sizable line on both Varsity and JV's main RB was quite good. It might take longer than next season and the one after, but they are definitely moving in the right direction and I could see them in the play-offs by 2016.

 

Patience is a virtue. The most difficult virtue, to be sure, but hang in there Braves!!
