Goford. I want to add one more thing to you comment. I have lived here in Grant County all my life and I do support these young men and no I am not yelling at them from the bleachers. I am just calling it the way that I see it. The bottom line is the super and the principal do not care about athletics and until that changes then nothing will change.

There are plenty of successful coaches that don't live in the community that they coach.

That might work for those schools but I think Grant County needs a young coach that is a proven winner that will be part of the community and build a program from the bottom up but like I said in a previous post none of this will happen until the administration gets on board like they do with the band.

If coach Siple is serious about building a program then the first thing he needs to do is move to Grant County and be part of the community. Then he needs to meet with the administration and see if they will get on board. Those two things are not going to happen. I am saying that Siple is not the answer. Grant County needs a proven winner that knows how to build a program and the administration needs to step up and be more supportive and make football important like they do with the band program.

A few years ago, this same thing went on in Park Hills and the parents bitched and complained enough to get the coach fired. Problem was , it wasn't the coach or Administration. Sometimes little jimmy just isn't quite good enough to play at a level to be successful. Successful in terms of winning high school football games. Parents are in denial and look for the easy way out. No way it could be their problem. Good luck with your hunt and hope everything works out for the program , kids, and everyone involved.

I saw kids who wanted to play, I didn't get that impression the last couple years, but this year I seen that. I also seen a lot of talent from the underclassman.

 

I know a player who never played the game until his freshman year who has busted his butt and finally broke the starting lineup on Varsity who loves it. It's that type of attitude the team needs and I think it is working.

They were in the hunt because the game was scheduled for last night. If they would have played all of the district games earlier in the season then it would have been determined a lot sooner.

I get it with the administration. If they are not on hoard, it doesn't matter who is coaching. But why is Siple not the answer at coach?

Kevin Siple is a fine Football coach. That is not the problem and I haven't even seen Grant play. Just saying.

Coach Siple is a proven winner. Go back and look at what he did at Indian Hill High School in Ohio. After coach Siple left Indian Hill has done..........nothing! The guy is an excellent Offensive coach. Give coach Siple some time and he will get it turned around. Rome wasn't built in a day.:thumb:

Grant has a number of limitations that are tough to work with. The location makes it hard to get additional coaching staff. There are very few teaching openings in the county to bring in coaches. The school has went through 4 HC in the past 10 years and thats with Coach Davis being there 6 of those years. Of the current staff I believe no one has been there longer than 2 years. The current Sr and Jr class is thin in numbers and talent. The freshman and sophomore classes have larger pools of talent if they continue with the program (don't move or give up playing). This past year in the weight room there was very good progress. Players doing things in the offseason has been an issue in the past. Administration wise there have been a number of posts on here before that describe people's point of view on that.

 

I think the comparison to Scott is fair. What has changed Scott in part is a HC that has been with the program for about 7 years or so (he was the OC before) and having a couple of strong classes back to back. They had success as Jr and now are building on that as Sr. They have gotten out of the "here we go again" attitude and that is a tough cycle to break.

 

Now the bad thing I think people have no clue about what a marching bad can get away with. One I will say I have never been around a county in which marching band was such a big deal and that goes for both school districts. I think one reason it is a big deal at Grant is because there is this rivalry with Williamstown (who has the most athletic band in the state because of limited fall sports and such). There are days that sports teams are not allowed outside due to heat and the band is marching on black top. In the past they practiced during school hours (think of it as having an athletic period with pretty much your whole team at once year round). They have MS through HS students all involved in the program and pretty much year round. They are not restricted by any rules or anything close to the KHSAA nor do they truly compete with other sports for people. Lets face the fact it is much easier to replace a trumpet player who is 3rd on the right then a left tackle. The point to all of that is if a football team (or any sport) could do the things a marching band could do then yeah your team would put a better product on the field but that isn't the case.

I don't need to stop by and discuss anything with him because he knows what I am saying is the truth. I think that he could be successful in certain coaching positions but not here. Grant needs 2 things. A supportive administration and a coach that is willing to be part of the community and build it from the ground up.

What do you mean by ground up? I'm just asking in your opinion how the whole structure should work.

 

The HS needs a staff. They have been running on a skeleton crew. There are MS and freshman staffs that have more coaches. At some point the players have to step up and say they are going to make things change. Now there are a number of factors that go with that and I think that is changing some but it doesn't happen over night.

Siiple is not the problem. He has proven himself at Highlands and Georgetown as a player and proven himself as a coach at Indian Hills. I believe he was at Bracken County for a short time and their program took an upswing under his leadership. Grant County does not have any local, home grown guys to coach football. It is a relatively new sport to Grant County. As a result, you likely have inferior junior league coaches, an inferior middle school program, your parents did not play, so they can not help at home or in the program. Coach Siple is probably better than you deserve. I would embrace him and let him build a program.

Jaws, I appreciate your opinion. And I'd much rather you attack me publicly than our players. I'm in a position that this comes with it. A couple points to defend our program. Practices are great and the kids are working hard. They are learning the game and most of them are "all in" emotionally and physically. It's hard to see from the outside because we are playing in what I believe is one of the toughest districts in the state. Conner, Cooper, South Oldham , and Scott are very good this year. One of our coaches has restructured the youth program and they are doing incredible things and are moving forward. Our JV team is doing well. Plus the fact that we are starting several sophomores and a couple freshman on Friday nights. ( last night 2 freshman & 8 Sophs) It may appear from the outside that's there's not much positive progress going on, but I can assure you that's not the case. As far as personal attacks on me and missing 30 days of school and being late for practices--thats ridiculous and completely false. We had a great offseason that our coaching staff committed to being at school 3 or 4 days a week from Dec 3 to Aug. Our kids are working hard and learning the game. They are also experiencing all the great things that football teaches them about becoming a successful human being when they leave high school. I'll leave it at that. That's all I'm going to say on here because our kids really know the great things going on and how much we care about their development as a player and person. Go Braves. Siple.
