Does school or boosters provide? Or is it up to the parents to get them?

 

For several years at Somerset all Varsity athletes received their Varsity Jacket with all sports patches, numbers and name on it the day before their Junior year started. Big Picnic on school lawn for all sports athletes is held and the jackets were passed out. At the time the Varsity Club was raising a lot of money through Bingo and footed the bill for all of the jackets. The year after my son received his the Varsity Club funding dropped dramatically and they no longer purchase the jackets...so I was wondering how other schools do it.

At Highlands the school provides the letter and bars. The boosters give each kid a certificate for $25 (I think this is right) towards the purchase of the jacket. The family picks up the remainder of the cost of the jacket. Others can correct me if I am wrong, it has been a few years since I went through the process.

Dixie provides letter and bars. Parents cover the cost of jacket.

Middle schoolers get the letter sweaters, big boys get jackets :laugh:

Letters and bars provided. We pay all the rest.

Very very expensive. Not many kids have them.

Just dropped off THREE jackets for "updates" last week. Now the only question is, who wants to pay my electric bill??

 

Sad that nice tradition at Somerset was lost.....

Clyde, you're showing your age. But I remember those cardigans as well. I never let a girlfriend wear mine though.

Wow, that is very nice considering the price of those jackets.

I know a clown from Highlands who wears his jersey and his letterman's jacket to reunions. It looks as daisy fresh as it did when it rolled out of the factory over 30 years ago.

I agree it is and I wonder just how much longer that tradition will continue. Speaking of which, was in the closet this evening and looked at 3 generations of Mayfield "M" jackets as we refer to them. A couple of them are very old with one being new. The design has not changed one stitch though the materials sure have. The older ones having lether sleeves and the new being, well I don't know what this fake lether is but its not real leather
