I love the NFL but they make it difficult at times...

Featured Replies

First there was a media report that the NFL was looking at double headers on Thursday night. Then the NFL denied it. Now Jerry Jones says it is in fact true. Then the NFL repeated the denial...

You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Again, I love the NFL, the entertainment is great, but business side of it takes a little of the luster away.

Hard to argue with their success in the money making department. They are force feeding their own network on everyone. I was actually at a get together last night where a guy left because they didn't have NFL Network and he wanted to watch someone on his fantasy team.

No NFL Network? Was the get together in Russia?

Is it just me because I still have not gotten used to the whole Thursday night NFL game thing? Usually about 9:45pm or so, I say to myself, "Oh, there's a game on tonight." With a other workday yet to go in the week, it feels odd to me. I like to finish my work week, go watch some Friday night H.S. football, catch bits and pieces of college games on Saturday as I go about my business, and indulge myself with as much NFL action on Sunday as my wife lets me. Monday night after a workday is different because I see that game as an extension of the weekend (the last hurrah). I would not be a fan of that proposal.

I agree.

I think the NFL is missing something here. One of the biggest reasons the NFL has been so succesful and the viewing numbers are through the roof for games on Sundays is because

1. There are only 16 games a season

2. There are only games on Sundays (and MNF)

It's because the media isn't saturated with a ton of games so each week people look forward to watching on sundays, they look forward to it.

I don't know about you all, but I watched maybe 10 mins of the game last night. I love football but it can be too much also.

To be successful you want your audience wanting more, that doesn't mean give them more, if you keep giving them more then they grow tired of it, it loses some of it's luster.

I liked MNF because it felt like a special event. Now with Thursday Night Football and Sunday Night Football and Monday Night Football....it is starting to feel like any other sport where it seems like it's on everyday and no longer special.

Obviously you are in the minority.

If they add Wednesday Morning Football, I swear I am OUT! I will have to attend some 12 step group meeting or something but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it......

Don't get me wrong here, I absolutely love Thursday night football. What I don't care for is the lack of integrity by the NFL. Not just in this case, but in the case of concussions, playing both ends against the middle when it comes keeping all the financials secret, not taking care of retired players properly, etc.

Why not add Tuesday night games too...could use teams coming off of a bye week, extra prep would have to be better than Thursday games with short week of prep.

It's just too much football imo.

It's not difficult to get viewers for 3 hours at a time once a week, but I think if you are trying to get viewers to tune in to 1 event 4 days a week (Sat as the season goes on) will start to have them lose interest.

The thing about Goodell which will deffinatley show arrogance is if he ever has Friday Night football....to basically slap in the face of all high school football teams.

I hope they do it. High school football is more boring than watching paint dry.

I assume you hate college football though? They have Friday night games every week on ESPN.

More NFL = more better things to watch on TV.

I'm not against more games simply because the more nationwide telecasts there are, the more chances I have to watch the Vikings from the comfort of my living room. I'm not a huge NFL fan so I won't necessarily watch more games if they're on, but I might check in late if it's a close game.

Closely following the business side of any sport takes the luster off of it.

I agree.

Agree with this 100%. As successful as the NFL is, if they started showing games 4 or 5 nights a week, I think people stop caring that football is on and lose some interest.

When you have the hammer everything else becomes the nail. They will do and get what they want if it brings in more revenue. MLB recognizes this and tries and stay away from them, if possible. They may take on Sunday Night Football if there is a game on Sunday. They will be going against the Broncos (3rd most popular team nationally) and Manning's first visit back to Indy It's the only game in NFL being talked incessantly about because of Irsay. MLB will get crushed. They may have to move it.
