Truckers to protest tomorrow

Truckers plan 3-day slowdown on D.C. Beltway

"Brace yourselves, Washington, D.C., drivers. Angry truckers are coming to town Friday as part of a three-day protest to "shut down America" and "restore our Constitutional Republic."

Enraged by low wages, fuel prices, regulations, the government shutdown, the debt ceiling, President Obama and "the corruption that is destroying America," the "Truckers Ride for the Constitution" aims to tie up three lanes of Interstate 495 circling the nation's capital, with big rigs traveling 55 mph, an organizer told U.S. News & World Report."

If you've ever driven in Washington you'd be tickled to death to go 55 on I-495.

I believe truckers also did similar in late '70s and early '80s when max speed limits were reduced to 55 in numerous states. Couple-three big rigs on one interstate backed up traffic for miles and miles doing 55 side by side.

:thumb: The 495 is awful. Some of the worst traffic you'll ever see.

Having spent the past 10 years of my life in transportation, just let me say, nothing surprises me here. 99% of drivers are fantastic people. The 1% make the whole industry look backwards, irrational, and down right stupid. How do you protest low prices, when you set the market as a group? What is Congress going to do about that? In fact, this is the EXACT WORST time to protest prices out of the Atlantic coast through the Northeast because market rates are so high. This protest makes no sense. Now, if they were just protesting the new hours of service law, then yes, protest away b/c that directly impacts their earnings. Everything else is just irrational. What are a few big rigs on the 495 going to do to make Obama and the House Republicans speed up their talks???

It's being reported that Obama is using the national guard to shut down I-495 and to prevent the truckers from using the loop..

Where ?

:up:Keep on Trucking:up: Love it!:ylsuper:

55 MPH on the 495? I feel the need for speed!!!

They plan "huge" protests about once a year. The problem is that the profit margin is so narrow for most carriers that they can't risk the drama and it peters out. On top of that, there are Apollo many foreign owned and manned trucking companies that will drive past any protest, that the disruption in supply is minimal.

Not many trucks on the interstate today. Some but nothing like normal.

Owner/operators are being regulated out of business.

I guess that is why those 3000 truckers didn't show up to waste a weekend driving around in circles .
