October 9, 201313 yr 286 Yes 242 No.. This was the second vote for the Wet/Dry this year. First vote was No. This vote was city limits only. First time Estill County has been wet in a long long time.
October 9, 201313 yr So it's just Irvine and not all of Estill Co., right? We're not going to see half the liquor stores in Richmond shut down in response, are we?
October 9, 201313 yr So it's just Irvine and not all of Estill Co., right? We're not going to see half the liquor stores in Richmond shut down in response, are we? They survived Somerset going wet. They'll survive this one too. EKU is still in Richmond.
October 9, 201313 yr Owsley County voted wet in March but no sales have occurred yet. There's still a lot of red tape and legal maneuvering before beer /liquor is sold. I'm hearing that the first store may be ready for sales next month. And as far as Irvine going wet, I'm sure Richmond alcohol sales will still do fine, but to say it won't hurt their businesses is wrong. Estill County has always been big business for Richmond.
October 9, 201313 yr Author Have one for me. :jump: I will next time I get to drink. So it's just Irvine and not all of Estill Co., right? We're not going to see half the liquor stores in Richmond shut down in response, are we? I honestly have no idea. I was just going by people saying on facebook that it had been voted wet. I know before the voting took place, only people in city limits could vote. The first time the vote took place (which was voted No) the whole county got to vote but this vote was for city limits. Welcome to the 21st Century with the rest of us. This should have happened a long long time ago. Churches are the ones who voted against it, I know it's bad to say and I hate saying it but it's the truth.
October 9, 201313 yr The title is misleading then. Estill Co is still dry. The city of Irvine has gone wet.
October 10, 201313 yr Author The title is misleading then. Estill Co is still dry. The city of Irvine has gone wet. I'm sure it won't stop country people from going and buying here in Irvine..
October 10, 201313 yr Beer in a grocery store??? Imagine that... I remember going to North Carolina a few years ago... We were out eating, and asked our server where the closest grocery store was so we could get some beer. He looked at us like we were crazy. Apparently you could only get beer in liquor stores, and they all closed at 9 pm. We told him we could get beer at a gas station until 4 am. :lol2:
October 10, 201313 yr I've never understood the reasoning behind being a "dry" county....:idunno: Alcohol prohibition has been used by Protestants as a means of social control for the entirety of this country's existence.
October 10, 201313 yr Alcohol prohibition has been used by Protestants as a means of social control for the entirety of this country's existence. I'll reword....I've never heard a reason that wasn't beyond dumb for places being dry.....
