I am glad that the Cats are obviously improving and playing hard. I would say that Stoops blasting them publicly the other day sent a message. Too bad that Alabama comes in next week.

Yes, but that's life in the SEC. You wanna be the best? Play the best. Few "off" weeks in the SEC-- that's the nature of the beast. No arguing with the SEC's spot in the college football landscape right now. Anyone who tries to make one is just fooling themselves.

Just finished watching the replay. What a great 2nd half by Whitlow. I'm really impressed by this team's continued improvement.

 

BTW. I'm still looking for the invisible 12th man on that play near the end of the game. I guess counting is not a requirement to be a ref, either.

Another thing I wondered about that call is they threw the flag before the ball was snapped. If there had been 12 players, couldn't he have gotten off the field before the snap, thus negating the penalty?

1st, he had a limited motor last year, and still has one this year.

2nd, that hit led to a hype that he never truly earned. He had an awesome season last year, but the hype was just too much.

3rd, once he had a bad first game it never left his psyche.

4th, SC's other DE left/graduated after last season, and he was VERY good. Clowney is getting doubled much more this year.

5th and final, he was hurt all of August. I doubt that he is anywhere near 100%

Couldn't agree more. I fight with one of my buddies about this all the time. Without that hit last year, we don't talk about Clowney half as much as we do now. Great DE, but not worth all the hype, IMO.

I think he's one of those players that will be a much better pro than college player. Think he is kinda going through the motions in college. Once he starts getting those paychecks, he'll put forth the effort IMO.

I can definitely see him being a beast in the NFL. I think that hit just kicked the level of hype around him way up, when it may have been a little premature.

The hit and subsequent ESPY award put him over the top with the hype machine, but Clowney was pretty well known since high school. He has generated a bulk of the hype with his mouth and actions or lack-there-of.
