Holmes 42 Bellevue 36

Highly entertaining game. What was the total yardage by both teams? Had to be 900 yards if Scruggs got nearly 300 by himself and Bellevue QB had 400 yards passing, according to nkysports story.

Late addition: Story said Ackerson also had 150 on the ground, so the two-team total might be closer to 1,000 yards!

This game was not much fun to watch. Even though the scoring suggests it may have been, but the game just wore on and on and on. Roughly three hours to finish this one.

The officials were wretched. Sure there may have been some missed calls, but they wouldn't give signals, conferenced too much and didn't hustle IMO.

Holmes was in control the entire game, even though Bellevue got within a TD in the last minute.

How about the antics of the Bellevue coach in the second half?

He ran down to the 10 yard line arguing about a call, threw his hat and the official right there didn't say a word. Then he calls timeout and the officials let him rant and rave on the field for the entire timeout and he runs and throws his hat again. I would have been embarrassed if I were a Bellevue fan seeing that display. It was something you would see at a peewee football game.

Bellevue didn't lie down and kept fighting and they have some decent players.

Scruggs is really good but looked like he was gassed.

Holmes was sloppy but probably expected with all the young players logging major minutes. I was told they were missing 6 starters and most if not all play both ways.

First off all Bellevue coach Johnny Poynter is one of the good guys and on top of that he is a great coach. If he did what you said it must have been peewee officiating on a Friday night. What he and his staff have done with one of the smaller enrollments in 1 a is amazing. They are playing the big boys and they are competing. Give him the kids and more numbers and 4a Holmes would have been knocked off. Any true football person can see that.

I guess you missed the part where Holmes played without 6 starters?

Also, don't be fooled by the 4A enrollment of Holmes. They have # problems as well when it comes to football. Coach Nevels is doing a great job changing the program, but let's not act like little ole Bellevue was playing a team with 50-60+guys on the sidelines. My guess is Holmes dressed 30-40 guys a game (freshmen included).

The third quarter was possibly the longest I've ever witnessed. I think the penalty on the hit on the Holmes receiver on the fake-punt pass was what set off the Bellevue coach. I didn't understand that call. Looked clean to me. I thought it was an entertaining game -- little bit of everything.
