I expected Quick in a landslide last year based on talent. Sometimes this award doesn't go to the most talented or those with the best stats (see JJ Jude).

The SK quarterback should be all he does is win and put up good numbers!

Mr.Football is voted on by the media. The media are regional entities who will not see everyone play.

 

A. Being well known before the season starts is a good thing.

B. Getting covered during this season is a good thing.

C. Putting up big numbers is a good thing.

and last but certainly not least

D. Being recruited by U.K. is a good thing.

If that were the case then the HHS quarterback would be it as all he does is win against better teams and puts up MUCH better numbers.

I could be 100% wrong, but if Drew Barker doesn't win this I would be shocked. He doesn't play for the best team, but he is KY's highest rated high school player (I suppose he could be 2nd to Elam), playing the most important position on the field, and like others have said committing to UK (and doing it early) never hurts. I also think he has a very good public image in the state, given the vocal way he has set out to recruit other kids to KY.

I will actually be surprised if he doesn't win it also. As in many awards, it tends to be a publicity contest and Barker had great publicity the last year heading into this season. It was basically his to lose. He hasn't done anything that would suggest he lost the award yet. He keeps putting up fantastic numbers which should only seal the deal.
