Are the Cincinnati Bengals the biggest threat to the Denver Broncos?

Featured Replies

I think the list is a small one. What the Broncos have been able to do is unreal to this point.

Broncos way better than any other AFC team at this point. Bunch of teams in next tier (Bengals, Pats, Chiefs, Colts, Ravens, Texans) at this point, but it is way early.

Bengals may be one of the Broncos biggest threats, but the way the Bronco's are playing right now, I don't think they are losing any sleep thinking about the Bengals.

The hierarchy would go something like this

Broncos

Bengals

Patriots

Chiefs

Colts

The rest of the AFC

Cold weather is the biggest threat to the Denver Broncos. I can see this being a season Manning makes it back to the Superbowl but forced to play in a blizzard.

It is truly awesome to watch Manning run the show however. Sometimes he is just on a completely different level. Manning now has, for the first time in his career, a big #1 receiver. Harrison was always a smaller dude, not very physical. The best little slot receiver in the game in Welker. Stokley was nice, but Wes takes it to a different level. And a newly converted basketball player at TE that is on target for the Pro Bowl.

I'd say Cincinnati and New England are the biggest. NE has a solid defense now, and Brady's going to get his toys back soon.

I am not sure what yet to make of New England's defense. They have looked great against two rookie QBs (Manuel and Smith) and Josh Freeman. I am leaning towards solid to good defense as you are.

At this point, Manning and the Broncos are WAY ahead of the Bengals. He would carve the Cincinnati secondary like a Thanksgiving Day turkey. The only advantage the Bengals might have is in a pass rush on Manning's blind side since Clady is out for the season.

Manning is carving up everyone right now, but the Bengals did a pretty solid job on him last year, and haven't allowed a 300 yard passer in the past 17 games. I think they'd fair better than most think.

Possibly but most would have said that about Rodgers too. Rodgers was tearing up everybody including the 49ers defense, and the Bengals made him look kind of ordinary on that day. It takes a lot of things to go right, but they can slow them down. Especially since it would be most likely in cold weather in January.

We could hope, but the addition of Welker puts them over the top IMO. Trust me, I love Green, Sanu, Jones, the 2 TEs, and Benard, but Welker, Decker, and the 2 Thomases are an insane combination for a "Hall of Famer to be" like Manning.

What does that have to do with the defense? The Bengals D has pretty much shut down every QB they've faced in the past season and a half. They shut down Rodgers who has (arguably) as good of weapons as Manning in Cobb, Nelson, Jones, Finley, etc.

Yes, I was at the game Sunday and was as thrilled as everybody about slowing down Rodgers, but Manning is as good as Rodgers if not better and has a higher football intelligience. He is so competitive and brings out the best in all his players. He takes advice and information from others. I think he has that edge on Rodgers. That said, I agree with you on cold weather. Manning is winless in playoff games less than 40 degrees. Some good Denver snow and cold would be very welcome if the two teams eventually play.
