Mets @ Reds September 23rd - 25th

Loved BP's effort on the ground out in the 9th too...Exactly what you like to see out of one of your veteran "leaders".

Typical BP. It isn't like that was a no doubt easy play. Hustling on that ball could put a little pressure on the 2b and rush him into a bad throw.

I don't chalk these last two games up to no effort. The fact is the Reds just aren't a very good offensive team. And, frankly, Joey Votto is a disappointment. His RBI numbers are due to his lack of productivity as much, if not more, than lack of runners on base in front of him.

Once he caught it he looked to see where BP was and he wasn't even half way. LOL

Lack of effort was probably a poor choice of words. Lack of fire and lack of a sense of urgency are probably more accurate. They played like a team that had nothing to play for.

I'd like to see Latos blow a gasket in the clubhouse over this one. There's no reason a pitcher should have to throw a shutout AND hit a home run for his team to win a ballgame. Ridiculous.

Darnell McDonald has more hits today then he had for the Reds. Cubs 4-1 in the 6th

^With as bad as the Reds looked this series, it's looking like they'll have the same scenario as before. Take 2 of 3 this weekend and host the WC.

What's the home field tie-breaker if Reds win two of three this weekend and both Pirates and Reds finish 92-70? Head-to-head record?

Yep. They're 8-8 against one another this year, so whoever wins the series gets the home game.

Amazing. Definitely something to play for, and should bring out large crowds this weekend at GABP. Cubs announcers on WGN were saying how nice it would be for Bucs to host a playoff game after such a long absence. May not happen, though.

Wow, this team is frustrating to watch. Just like UKMustangFan posted, " Lack of fire and lack of a sense of urgency". They're damn lucky they have a chance to play for the WC host game thanks to the Cubbies. Just looked lethargic to me today. Could it be the pressure or playing a day game after night game laet in the season? Could it be they know they cannot defeat the Pirates no.1?

Except for the 3 times they smacked him around this year???

Just trying to make a point. But thanks for the correction, I can always count on you to set me straight.

Guess it depends on where the game is played. Both Latos and Liriano are better in their respective ballparks than on the road. And as I checked neither is lights out against the other's team.

This team has been shutout 11 times this year, only 4 times last year. What's the difference?

Latos is 5-1 with a 2.96 ERA against the Pirates in 11 career starts. Not too shabby even if the numbers aren't quite that good this season...
