The Bengals, most talented blah blah blah.

Featured Replies

The '05 team had some talent, but I would not touch them with a 10 foot pole. Chad Johnson was the leader of that team. That is all I have to know about the Bengals around that time. They had some players but intangibly brought nothing to the table.

As much of this is negative, and should be. I thought the play of Burfict, Eifert, Bernard, and Oline were bright spots. AJ is AJ, simply a star.

Players that stood out to me for the Good

AJ

Eifert

Dunlap ( he didn't get any sacks but was in the backfield a ton)

Burfict

Dalton After his first int he actually looked good and hit his deep passes which we haven't seen since he's been here.

Players that stood out to me for the Bad

Leon Hall, couldn't cover any WR it seemed like and what was worse was he couldn't cover their TE's when he was assigned them.

Peko Peko has always been bad in my eyes and yesterday they were running right byy him and he couldn't get hand on their RB's There were also some pass plays wheere you would see our entire D-Line 5 yards in their backfield and Peko 10 yards away with 0 penetration

Entire secondary, they continue to make every QB we play look like pro bowlers. Can't cover anyone down the middle nor anyone on a 5-10 yard route.

Coaches, still unable to make any sort of adjustments at halftime. They made a Rookkie HC look like the best NFL coacvh in the league yesterday. That plus the continued lack of self control the players show making stupid penalties which reflects ddirectly on the coaches. Not even going to mention blowing 3 time outs with more tthan 8 mins left in the game.

You mean all those experts you have links to which said nothing of the sort most of the time?

You do realize you can have depth at positions so you can toss someone in if injury happens doesn't mean they are great or even good

Players don't you?

Take our LBs for instance. They aren't very good yet they are deep at that position which means you replace crap with more crap. Our safeties is another position. Do we have depth there? Yep, are they any good? No. Or how about our O-line. Same thing there.

Depth is one thing but it doesn't mean they are good and unlike you I don't need someone else to tell me what I can see with my own 2 eyes unlike you who needs Jim bream from south city recorder to mention in an obscure piece.

No actually I have no problem stating my own opinion, and have proven that many times when really no one else has that opinion. Once again just look at the last two seasons as the perfect example. However when you claim that I only think these things because I look through orange color glasses, and act like your being realistic. I will share with you people who don't have bias either way, because you also have bias in your opinion. I have shown you these things, and announcers on tv during the game even talked about it, and then even on sportscenter last night Stuart Scott even mentioned how nfl experts have talked about the bengals as a team with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL top to bottom and a chance for the Super Bowl. Shoot your the only one who really seems to disagree with that fact. Which is fine because your are entitled to your opinion. However its not hard to see that this is one of the most talented teams in the NFL top to bottom. The only question marks that could effect this team is the coaching and QB play. Yesterday QB play was fine but coaching sucked. You put a QB on this team that is more proven, and then you have even more people predicting the Bengals and the Super Bowl because of the talent on the roster. You seem to act like if someone says they are one of the most talented teams in the NFL that means they don't have holes. Shoot every team has holes to fix, just some others are better at hinding their holes because of coaches or top QB who make bad players look good. There are definite holes on the team, however people who look at all the rosters in the NFL with no bias, see that this is one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. I have no idea why you wanted to make sure an argument out of this. Especially when you argument only had to do with the starters from the 2005 team to start with. Which we were not talking about which team was set up to go further, we were just talking about overall talent. Simple concept.

The second half of the last season when they went 7 and 1 the secondary did a great job against QB's. So I am not sure where you get they are continuing to make QB's look great. Yesterday though they did struggle I can't argue that. However to act like that always happens is wrong too. When there is no pass rush, most secondaries would get torched. Shoot San Fran who has one of the best defenses in football even had a pass rush and still Rodgers put up great stats against them. In the NFL today there are some Great QB's who will do great no matter what you do. Then there are average QB's with talent who can do very good when there is no rush and that is what Cutler did. Secondary still could have played better though I admit.

Agreed! I Burfict is a stud, and makes plays everywhere. He is someone that I believe definitely will hold out after this season to get a new contract. His playing on I believe his free agent rookie contract still. So I won't blame him if he holds out until he gets a new contract. Hopefully the Bengals pay him what he deserves.

So you want to quote ESPN guy Stewart Scott? I can do the same. This morning on Mike and Mike they said the Bengals could be the most overrated team in the NFL.

Touché

This team has talent. No doubt, but nowhere near the most talent since Boomer's days.

I will give this team the best talent in 1 area, the D-Line. but I will give the best talent in the following areas to the 2005 team

LB's

DB's

O-Line

QB

RB's

WR's

Kicking (remember our kicker in 2005 went to the pro bowl and was the best kicker in the AFC that year)

LB's and Rb's 2005

QB, WR, D-line, TE's 2013

K, DB's, O-line - a wash

We ain't changing each other's minds, though

Wow, anyone who says Andy Dalton is better than Carson Palmer was in 2005 is delirious. If you really think that then that is all I need to know about your insight into football.

For you to think Brandon Tate is as good as TJ was is a joke or Sanu as good as Chad was....

Then to actually think the O-Line this year is as good as the 2005 O-Line which was the best the Bengals ever had since the 80's and the best in the entire league that year.....wow.

Very true I heard the same comment. It was from the one Mike who openly admitted a few times that what ever he says usually the opposite happens lol. Still many more people than opposite have talked about the Bengals and being one of the most talented teams. Very few have talked about them being overrated.

Jay Cutler is no Aaron Rodgers.

Very true and I addressed that in the post too. I said Great QB's will do great usually no matter what you do or great defense it is. Then I said average QB's with talent which is Cutler can do very good when there is no rush and that is what happened Sunday. Its very simple we are talking about NFL QB's and for the most part if you give any QB plenty of time and especially when they have talented guys to throw too they will pick you apart. Its just like how Dalton looked good most of the game when he had time. Then that last drive when they finally got pressure on him, he did struggle some.

Bengal Maniac me and Hellbird disagree a lot, however I even have to agree with most of what Hellbird said. Palmer had an amazing year in 2005, so no matter how well Dalton does this year he is still going to have a hard time matching the type of play Palmer had that year. As for starting receivers he is right too. Chad was the best on that team, however I would say Green is better than him. However the #2 and #3 receivers of TJ and Henry is better than Sanu and Marvin Jones who is the #3 receiver not Tate. Weapons as a whole though when it comes to throwing the ball it is a closer. The TE's in 2005 sucked, and this years team has two TE's who are ten times better than the 2005 team. The offensive line in 2005 was very solid, so I have to agree with Hellbird there too. At Runningback I think Green Ellis could have done what Rudi did behind that line, so that would be a wash. However when it comes to overall when talking about starters on offense 2005 gets the edge and rightfully so. Defensively me and Hellbird disagree on a lot though, so no reason to go into that. However when it comes to the starters for 2005 there was plenty of talent. Just not as much talent which includes backups as 2013, which is what me and Hellbird and disagreed on. So I even have to side with Hellbird at least on this post.

Palmer was good in 2005, but I think Dalton will be better over this season than Palmer was in '05. We'll see, though. I think Green is so much better than anyone on '05 it makes them better. Chad was one-dimensional, could only play the X spot, although he played it very well. Couldn't put him in motion to create space, like AJ can., Chad could only learn one spot and that was his undoing in New England. TJ was better than Jones or Sanu but could not stretch the field, Henry could stretch the field but was also one-dimensional,also I do not think Tate should be in the discussion, he only played 2 offensive plays Sunday. They have 3 receivers that can play all three wide receiver positions and that makes them a lot more versatile and more difficult to defend. We shall see, good for discussion in my mind, however, delirium on opinions is always a stretch to me. I don't think people are delirious on opinions usually, but whatever HB thinks on that is ok by me. I can carry on:popcorn:

Remember we are talking about talent level. WR's for 2005 were much better than the WR's this year. AJ is the only one on this years squad that would be starting on 2005's team. People may not like Chad (as I thought he was a huge cancer) but in 2005 he was the best in the league and no one can doubt that.

With that said, saying Dalton will have a better year this year than Palmer did in 2005, I hope you are right because if that is the case Dalton will be talked about as being one of the if not the best QB in the entire league as Carson was following the 2005 season.

Here are Carson's numbers for the 2005 season and if you think Dalton can do better then you have a lot more faith in Dalton as even FC does.

Carson Palmers 2005 stats

Compl % 67.8%

Passing Yards 3,836

TD's 32

QB Rating 101.1
