Lawrence Central (IN) 17 Trinity 13

Rough game. Defense was solid, but the offense struggled all night. The back to back picks by LC are what did it.

T back to normal looks so different. Hope they rebound.

Sounds like it was a thrilling game. I was really hoping T would pull off the win there at the end.

Tough game to lose. Need to play a little smarter. I think we're getting there. It's a process.

Boy Colerain looked good tonight, real good. Eek.

L C is 2012 state champ in IN big school class. They are rated in top 3 this year. Offense was pushed around tonight by L C front7.. Defense played well. Trial by Fire will harden you. Rocks will get better. They are young and inexperienced.

Did Reggie B QB tonight?

Trinity has some kinks in the armour this year but they still will win 6a cause they are willing to play the best to be the best! T still has a tough road ahead of them with two more possible loses. They won't beat colerain, And moeller will be a toss up. Everone esle T will more then likely beat.

Did Reggie B QB tonight?
Yes, unfortunately he threw a pick six and another interception was returned inside the ten and LC settled for a field goal. Combine these points with the two safeties allowed and the offense allowed 14 points and scored 13!:idunno:

Lawrence Central's defensive prowess produces stirring 17-13 victory over Louisville Trinity

Bears' defense makes difference night

Lawrence Central’s defense attacked like a pack of hungry dogs fighting over the last scrap of meat.

So on fourth-and-3, with barely a minute left and the ball resting at the Lawrence Central 13-yard line, Louisville Trinity coach Bob Beatty dialed up a play that called for maximum protection.

It still didn’t work. James Jones and Brandon Lee busted through the line and standout quarterback Reggie Bonnafon slipped to the turf trying to escape.

Final: Lawrence Central 17, Louisville Trinity 13.

That score didn’t win the Bears any trophies on Friday night and won’t matter much once the state tournament rolls around. But if image is anything, Lawrence Central scored some extra points for the perception of Indiana high school football after an 0-3 area showing last week against out-of-state powers.

Lawrence Central (3-0) came into the game ranked No. 17 nationally by USA Today, with Louisville Trinity (1-2) slotted at No. 23. The Bears ran their winning streak to 18 games.

“You can take out of it what you want,” said Lee, a senior linebacker. “I won’t say it’ll send a message, but it says something.”

What it said Friday night, mostly, was this: Lawrence Central has a really, really good defense, with a chance to be great. Led by linebackers Lee, Nikia Averitte and Darrin Kirkland, the Bears held an explosive Trinity offense to just 35 rushing yards.

“It’s a blast,” Lee said. “I’ve got two guys next to me that are willing to fight just like I am out there on the field. They came out and balled with me.”

That’s not to mention the defensive line, in particular Jones and Carlton Stovall, who basically initiated themselves as members of the Trinity backfield. Defensive end Jack Pounds may have made the play of the game when he tipped the pass of Louisville recruit Bonnafon and it landed in the hands of Marcus Fletcher, who caught it in stride and returned it 12 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 14-13 lead late in the third quarter.

“We have athletes across the field,” first-year Lawrence Central coach Jed Richman said of his defense. “We have big physical guys who really rallied around one another. It was neat to see them gel.”

There were concerns on the offensive side for Lawrence Central. The Bears frittered away several opportunities to put more points on the board and managed just 92 rushing yards. Quarterback Tyler Redfern passed for 128 yards, but 60 of those came on one completion to 5-4 dynamo Will King.

“Some of that is this whole staff is new,” Richman said. “It’s a whole new offense and these guys are still learning. We only had two starters back from last year and that was a very good defense. But from a bigger perspective, this was a big win for our program. (Former coach Jayson West) obviously set the expectations very high and these kids expect to win. They rise to the level of competition; that’s obvious.”

Lawrence Central trailed 6-5 at halftime, getting only a safety from Lee and a 21-yard field goal by Nash Griffin. Trinity marched right down the field on the first drive of the second half as the elusive Bonnafon raced 20 yards for a score to put his team ahead 13-5.

The Bears’ defense made another key play when Jones sacked Bonnafon for another safety midway through the third quarter, cutting the Trinity lead to 13-7. After Fletcher’s interception return for a touchdown, Kirkland picked off another Bonnafon pass to lead to a 35-yard Griffin field goal, putting the Bears up 17-13.

“Bottom line is when you can’t run the football and get whipped up front, you get beat,” Beatty said. “We got beat. I thought our defense played outstanding but lost two-thirds of the game, and when that happens, you’re not going to come out smiling.”

Lee and the Lawrence Central defense was smiling late Friday. Finally satisfied, at least for one night.

Yea hard to win when your offense gives up more points than they score.

Rocks out of state schedule is brutal. I hope our Kentucky foes keep writing us off. Go Rocks!!!!

Its one thing to play every Friday nite with a big bullseye on your back as we know very well. But to play on the National level with that bullseye is just incomprehensible imo...

T vs Scott Cty matchup is going to be the big one and only one that will matter

I would love to see the T/Colerain game next week.. Should be a very good game...
