September 6, 201313 yr Just curious what was going on down at GABP this week against the Cardinals? The Reds managed to get 31k, 20k, 21k, and 20k in attendance for the 4 game series. Just curious why, with 3-4 weeks left in the season, playing a HUGE division rival that usually sells out and only 3 games out now, we only manage to get 20 thousand fans at the game? The last place Giants had 41 thousand at their game last night. Any thoughts? Is it just football time now?
September 6, 201313 yr I was a bit surprised as well but history does say attendance goes down during September.
September 6, 201313 yr Back to school week nights in September, lots of other school related activities happening, fewer people taking vacation days and spend a few nights out of town, etc. I will say I was surprised to hear there are still tickets available for tonight and tomorrow. The big 8 in town and Joe Morgan weekend versus the Dodgers ... they have to get close to sellouts at these games, right?
September 6, 201313 yr Schools back in, that's the #1 reason weekday attendance is down. Soccer and youth football will hurt weekend attendance as well. Baseball should start playoffs right after labor day, too much going on to maintain the same interest they have during the summer.
September 6, 201313 yr I think the dynamic pricing is hurting the Reds a bit for some of these series....Looked online last night, as I needed to get 5 tickets to Saturday's game, and the cheapest seats through the Reds were over $20, and that was for bleacher seats. Went on Stubhub and found the same seats for $10 a pop. The 500 level and the bleacher seats should not be subject to the dynamic pricing IMO. Also, I think this series against the Cards it was a direct result of their atrocious play against them this season. Why go, when all indications pointed to getting their brains beat in?
September 6, 201313 yr In all honesty, was it really a huge series? Both teams seem destined for the playoffs. Even if the Reds had been swept they would be in a pretty good spot for the wild card game. There are still two home weekends left. It is possible that while the games were important, many fans see the upcoming weekends as better options for attending and some may also be saving a few bucks for the possible/likely home playoff games upcoming.

I have to disagree. This was a big series. This is a really tough week and getting beaten up by the Cardinals and Dodgers would be a real blow to the division race. As it stands, the Reds are only three back and have six of their last nine games this season against the first-place Pirates. Taking three of four kept them in this thing. Much better to start in the divisional series than rely on the luck of winning a one-game playoff.

But was it huge in the sense that fans absolutely had to come to the ballpark? It doesn't appear so and I think the reasons I put forth were part of it.

The funny thing about the Dynamic Pricing is that is cost more to sit upstairs against the Cards than it did downstairs. I'm not sure of the exact details, but they had one of those promotions where depending on how many games they win, the seats in the lower level will be cheaper. They had lower level seats going for $20 this series, but an upperdeck seat was $24. Explain that to me? It was disappointing as a vendor this week...but what can you do.
September 6, 201313 yr Author The seats in the lower level were going for 20 bucks because of the "Reds win you win" or whatever it was called promotion. They won 4 games last week, so they took 4 dollars per win off the price of the infield box seats. That why they were 20 bucks. And for your previous question, i was at Monday's and Wednesdays games.

I'm agreeing with UKMF that dynamic pricing shouldn't be upstairs, especially if you're running a promotion that makes tickets downstairs cheaper. Wish more people would have been like you. Made me sick seeing the stadium, especially the upper deck that empty throughout the week. Even Labor Day was bad for a holiday.

Cincinnati's is slightly over 2.

I'm with you on this one. Dynamic pricing plus the early week match doesn't make for great attendance when school is in session.
September 8, 201313 yr Dynamic pricing is a joke. If you want the stadium full and are still going to have every game on TV then dynamic pricing just gives fans a reason to stay home. The Reds do a great job with promotions and making the ballpark experience entertaining but dynamic pricing is just another way to milk more money from fans. Until I see $5 seats for a Tuesday April game against the Marlins then I believe the dynamic only works one way.
