They have no kids that are number 1s both ways. When they go to 4 rec sets they will bring in their CBs as extra wide outs. They will also run some linemen in and out to get some playing time both ways.

It is also possible for one superior athlete to dominate at the Frosh level, which is much more difficult at the varsity level. I remember when Josh Conner was a frosh at Highlands and they would win big, I would ask myself is this team that good or is Josh just that much better than everyone else?

Heard the Highlands coaches had head phone issues at SK? Anyone? Not accusing anyone of any wrong doing but just sounds a little fishy to me especially with the outcome.

We beat Highlands my Freshman year by about 2 TDs if not more. Our Senior year, they had a Jr. QB named Jared Lorenzen and they were ahead 35-0 at the half. Freshman scores mean little unless you have a good class behind them to support them later on.

I got to the game mid-late in the second quarter and I never saw a point scored. In addition to watching the game, I was there to shoot some photos; what I basically got when I looked at my pics were basically two opposing piles moving around the field. Not the most exciting sporting event I've ever watched but good W for SK.

SK's Super Bowl for most of the players. Highlands frosh learning 1/3 of what they will know in 3 years. I remember the Ryle frosh having a parade after they beat McCoys team although it didn't work out 3 years later.

I don't think so. A freshman win is good and something to get excited about. But how many freshman championships has Highlands won in the past 10 years? How many state championships have they won? Freshman wins tell you one thing ... there is some talent in the pipeline. That is all it means and that is what the Birds fans know, so they aren't going to get too wacked out about a freshman loss nor too hyped up if they win, even if they win a freshman championship. It is all just part of the process with the focus on state titles.

 

VOR, I agree completely with the point of your post (as you consistently live up to your screen name). That being said, Highlands has won the majority of the large NKY school frosh championships over the past 10 years including I believe at least 4 undefeated seasons. However, as mentioned by others whether championships or a few losses at freshman level, the varsity teams succeeding them generally have had comparable success. It is a different game at the varsity level. Also, potential weaknesses of one class/grade are often solved by players in the talent pool of the class below or above them.
