Then you should look into get a living will/advance directive. It will take the burden off of your family members if worse comes to worse and you can decide it on your terms.

Had this exact discussion the other day.

I do not want to exist as a burden, I have a living will.

I did have to help make the decision to take my mom of life support and did have the support of her priest. Was not easy, but it was the right thing to do and her wish as well.

Shooting is another story, that would be hard.

I know what you're saying and that's always the great debate is "why" is this allowed to happen... Or why are children sick or killed, etc?

I am in a unique position that I could prescribe enough meds to keep them out of pain. I can't imagine being able to pull the trigger on my wife. Can't even fathom it.

I think when it comes to decisions about leaving a loved one on life support or pulling the plug, religious teachings, etc. go out the window. It's about what the individual suffering wants, and IMO there are no wrong decisions.

I don't think this person is the kind of person whose been thinking, "man, it'd be a better world if I could just kill my wife". I don't think anything I've read so far can sway me into thinking this was a decision he looked forward to making.

 

I've not been in his shoes, so I can't judge him. Just a heartbreaking story in general.
