The kid is a very good basketball player!

He's an even better kid.

It's not like he is commuting from Dry Ridge to Pikeville everyday. They had to move. I have never understood the khsaa's stance that you can't move for sports. You can move because the rents cheaper, because you want to live in the country, etc., but not because you want your son to play for a coach you like and admire??? Every real estate brochure I have ever seen mentions the school district. I know people that move to have their kids at a successful music school, academic school, etc., why should athletes be discriminated against. They don't make band members sit out a year.

 

I believe the KHSAA worries about

 

Did the ability of the student help get a job for a parent to be able to move?

Did the ability of the student help secure housing?

Did the entire family move?

 

 

They had to move and just happened to move to where the former coach was was at?

Not always true. That being said, I doubt the Carr family moved to Pikeville thinking he would get more "exposure" to college coaches. I would guess they did it to give their child the chance, in their definition, a great "high school experience" as a SR. I do not fault them for that. That being said, your stance on the matter is perfectly ok also. Your AAU statement is correct too, but I am sure the Carr family knows that.

Not sure of what the end game is here. Tyler was the best player on an up and coming team in a region with great teams and lots of publicity. He wasn't going to lose minutes/shots if he remained at Grant this year. Maybe he really just loves coach Hicks. If that's the case, more power to him. Not sure, however, that I'd ever let my kids transfer away from their friends during their senior year for that reason only.

 

If he wanted to attempt college down there, play some road games in Pike Co., heck, play the preseason gig at Sheldon Clark. The coaches from UPike and Alice Lloyd would make it down the holler to see him. Truth be told, may be more competition at his position in the mountains than in the 8th region.

I ran into 2 folks who had children that changed schools over the summer. Neither particiapte in high exposure sports (1 swimming, 1 Soccer--yes I heard they have their own thread now). Both kids transferred for legit reasons that had nothing to do with athletics. Neither can particapte. Both are decent athletes, but not studs. It's a shame, the one kid could for sure use the support group of a new team to make himself feel at home after struggling at his last school.

Yeah but nowadays they just get injunctions.

Common thread ... Parents didn't move.

 

Although Haddix was not Ineligible until Scott County senior year but that was because he played 4 years already after finishing 8th grade. Repeat of 8th grade was ruled first high school years. That's why no move transfers can occur before 8th grade.

 

The Scott county kid you may have been thinking about is Tanner Shotwe from Lexington Christian to Scotf County. His family never moved.

And there stands the problem with KHSAA.

 

I could care less that the kid is deemed eligible, the part that gets me is innocent kids that maybe play a sport that isn't one of the "main" sports in some eyes there always seems to be a different set of rules.

 

I just think it's a joke. I thought the whole Cordia thing was a joke yet kids who transfer because of parents relocating etc. are more often than not to be listed as ineligible.

 

I just wish they'd stay firm on either side. Either you can transfer and play or you have to sit a year....not both depending on who you are.
