Barker threw for one score and ran for 2. He run just as well as he passes. The complete package. He had one pick by Everett of BW who just barely missed a second pick later in the game.

 

Fieger was ineffective for BW until the last quarter when he opened it up for 2 passing scores including a bomb to fellow Sophomore Brett Slusher. BW was stalled most of the night on the ground.

 

One sour note was a leg injury to Jack Talley of BW. No details yet.

 

Conner's tackling was a lot surer than BW's.

 

Kicking game is very solid for BW.

 

The JV game showcased BW's QB Plageman who ripped off a 60 plus score followed one by plus 90. Very elusive and fast young man.

Beach Bum pretty well covered it. Conner was in control most of the night. The final score was 21-14 but Conner probably doubled the yardage on the Tigers. Beechwood offense struggled until late. Give credit to the Conner defense. They looked very solid. Beechwood got better in the 4th quarter. Conner had 3 turnovers. One was a very nice interception by Everret. The other two were fumbles, one of which was inside the 10. Barker had some nice throws but he did more damage running the ball than throwing it. It was good night of work for both teams.

 

On the injury side, Beechwood's Jack Talley tore his ACL and is done for the year. Conner's Creech left the game in the 4th quarter but it was just severe cramping. One of the Conner linemen also aggravated a hip injury (Gripshover?).

The Tigers played a lot of players trying to find the right mix. There is definitely talent there but it is going to take a few games to find how it works best. Even though Conner was in charge of this one, the Tigers learned a lot tonight and will get better from it. I thought Conner looked good.

Got a report that OLB Jack Talley tore his ACL. Prayers to him and his family if accurate. I pray it's not.

Sorry to hear about the young man from Beechwood. Hope he heals up and comes back better than ever.

See post #33 two spots above yours. Unfortunately it appears accurate. Best wishes to Jack. If there is any good news, it is that he is just a junior. Work hard and come back better than ever next year.

I don't know about you all, but there have been a lot of ACL injuries the last 2 days. I heard Walker for Ryle may have torn his also which puts it at 3 for NKY teams in the past 24 hrs.

My take aways:

 

Conner D will make some noise this year. McKeehan and Castleberry were both big contributors tonight. They made it tough sledding for Mitch Thomas.

 

Conner's offense will be very good. The miscues they made are easily fixed.

 

Fieger will be very good. High ceiling.

 

Way for Conner never left the field. Stud.

 

Conner will be better than people think.

 

Beechwood success will validate Conner.

McKeehan was more impressive on defense than offense. Way looked good catching it and running after the catch, but Beechwood went after Way at corner late and had success. With Barker at QB and the defense looking better, Conner is going to be very tough to beat. Obviously Barker earned that scholarship by throwing the ball, but he has always impressed me more running it than throwing it and tonight was no exception. He is a hoss running the ball and showed some speed and moves as well.

Drew will be a passer in college who can run if needed. He will not be used like he is at Conner. Too big of a difference between high school speed on D and SEC speed on D. Heck, the d-lineman will be faster than Drew. I said that same about Newton coming into UK and , if memory is correct, caught some guff for it. It's just common sense.

No doubt. Barker was definitely the most impressive I have seen him throwing the ball. He made a number of throws last night that were big time throws and he only missed on maybe 2 or 3. But while in high school at Conner, they could use him like Tyler Dunham and he would rush for 1500 yards.
