As the leading advocate of "don't read too much into scrimmages" I give one more example.

 

Abner got hurt very early. A few other DBs were out as well or played limited minutes.

This is the first one I've seen since Towles was a senior so I can't make any recent comparisons. Tonight I thought HHS was a little bit outmanned by T----in no small part due to the inherent difference between 6A and 4A, I'm sure.

 

There's actually very little difference in 6a and 4a in Ky. outside of T and X.. Highlands would likely win 6a as much as 4a without those 2..

Highlands has a formidable O-line and overall team size. The D-line penetrated and forced the Trinity QB to roll out of the pocket. Highlands will not face a QB as mobile as Bonnafon the rest of the year. I felt HHS abandoned the running game after Trinity went up by 14. HHS had plenty of success throwing a deep ball. The Bluebirds LBs and DBs are good high school players. Trinity has some pretty good talent at the skill positions. The Bluebirds QB showed it was his first game as the starter and will do fine down the road. The Elder game is definitely winnable. I have no idea what the 2A FL team will bring to the table. Good analysis. With respect to the running game I agree with LN but also thought that the Birds already know what they have at RB with two excellent and very experienced backs in Harris (3 year starter) and Hays so there was nothing for them to learn or find out about them by running them much in a scrimmage so no reason to risk them taking a lot of hits. They will have to find new ways to score in their goal line offense as they have relied a great deal in recent years on having a strong running QB (McCoy, Towles, Bardo, etc.) down there for quite a few years and the past couple of years often using a "jumbo package" with a couple of extra offensive lineman in the backfield in front of him to help make room (and I believe they have had a 90%+ TD success rate inside the 10 the past few years). That being said the OL looked good, protected the QB pretty well in the passing game and should be able to get it done near the goal line.

Trinity looked great last night. QB looked really good. Otherwise not the awe-striking star power of Quick, Dawkins and Hatcher of the past few years but a really good strong football player at every position and very well coached and fundamentally sound. I look forward to seeing the Ensworth game on TV next week.

Overall a very well played scrimmage with I believe only one TO and not too many penalties for an opening scrimmage (and most of those seemed like pass interference and not many of the false start and mental mistake penalties you often see early in season). It is amazing to me how well prepared the players are to play this early in the season versus early scrimmages from not too many years ago. Good luck to both teams this season. I expect both of them to have exceptional seasons again this year.

What's amusing as you would say is that you never seem to post in a NCC thread that contains positive content about their program and where they are going. I mean you should at least say everything look good in practice today when "WE" practiced. But instead you seem to troll from thread looking for some way to discredit HHS and yourself. You say you have respect for a program.....MY BEHIND!!!!! Because at the end of day whether you like the people on this board or not who support Highlands, they are the ones who built the program to where it is today.......Period!!!! ......Get over it...

Rule 8

Disappointed the result, but loved the effort and execution. The disappointment probably stems from thinking HHS would be better than they were and thinking (hoping) T would have a farther drop in talent from last year. Neither was the case.

 

HHS D will be fine. A healthy secondary will help and experience will also. Hope played very well as did Bardo. Some close plays on defense will improve as the season goes on (and the talent HHS is trying to tackle declines).

 

HHS O was good, but not as consistent as we have come to expect. I think not having 7 on 7 time this summer leaves them a bit further behind on the timing / learning curve than usual. Feggins played big and made good catches. Long ball was effective on catches and penalties. 1st & goal at the 2 has to be converted, but it's early and I wonder how much they have run the "jumbo" package so far.

 

Love the no huddle, snap as soon as the ball is whistled live. If you are going to 2-platoon, maximize the advantage of it by running as many plays as you can. Run at least some of the DBs deep on every play and then substitute with a fresh 4 WRs as the DB is hustling back to the line of scrimmage for the next snap. That will serve them better will the rest of the opponents on the schedule -- perhaps even University Christian as I seem to recall that I heard their roster was small in #s but high in quality.

Somebody mentioned in this thread about Highlands not playing in any 7 on 7 competitions against other schools this summer. Why didn't they? I seem to recall HHS playing in these over the past several years.

What goes hand in hand with T being the best is this State is the way they handle and present themselves. T is by far the Classiest program from top to bottom that Highlands has ever come across and they should be very proud.

I agree. Even their radio announcers had class. Thought they did a good job. Didn't hear the entire game, but what I did hear was good. Mutual respect for these two programs.
